December 2011 Chalkboard Drawing

December 1, 2011
This month I was inspired by chalkboard lettering artist, Dana Tanamachi.  She is incredible and inspiring.  This was my first try at chalkboard lettering.  It was challenging.  It took me a long time, but I am happy with the results and I definitely will try again in future months.
I chose a quote from a wonderful Christmas message from Jeffrey R. Holland:
"Only when we see that sacred, unadorned child of our devotion—the Babe of Bethlehem—will we know why the giving of gifts is so appropriate."
You can read the whole, wonderful message here.

Happy December, friends.

  1. Neighbor you are seriously TALENTED! If I install a chalkboard will you run over every month and create a masterpiece for us?? JK- my kids would probably smudge it- great work! Fun to find your blog!

  2. Oh, my gosh! Julia, you are so talented. But it needs to be somewhere other than your laundry room, like your front entry. Love them all!

  3. Love it! It's so nice to see this type of chalkboard that is being used and enjoyed for periods of time. I dislike the chalkboard "walls" that look so messy and chalky. This is a real work of art! I am dying to see the finished room in your basement!!!

  4. WOW! Once I saw this I knew I needed to quit stalking you and give you some love :) This is amazing. Who knew the tall, beautiful, dedicated sista was so talented?! Love your blog. Love seeing you enjoy this stage of your life. Love seeing you and Chris ("he looks just like the guy from the office"- I don't remember who said that, you or Nilsson) create together. Awesome!

  5. beautiful! found ya through chris' facebook post. he's one lucky guy to have a talented gal such as you. make sure he keeps cherishing that fact! ;) seriously splendid. totally pinned ya! ::hugs::

  6. I cannot tell you how much I wish you were able to sell the artwork from this chalkboard drawing. Months later, I still can't get this image out of my mind. If there was any way, I would totally buy it... just saying ;)

How to Throw a Murder Mystery Party for Teens (or Adults!)

Several years ago, I hosted a murder mystery party for some adult friends, but thinking back it was kind of a blur. Chris was getting over pneumonia! I do remember it being a fun way to dress up and spend the evening—everyone had a blast. So when Greta decided for her 15th birthday party that […]

5-Minute Baby Gem Salad with Lighter-than-Light Honey Mustard Dressing

We've gotten through most of winter, and we're ready for spring. And when I think spring, I think radishes and lettuces. This recipe is for the side salad I put together when I don't have much time, but I need something fresh to go with the main dish. It's simple. It's fresh. It's delicious. This […]
