We love Halloween around here and every year, for the past 6 years!, we have thrown a costume party. Everyone really goes all out with their costumes, we set up a photo booth, have lots of food and every year we dress up for the invites to really put the costume in costume party. This year, we channeled the Beatles.
We used the free font "Bootle", which looks exactly like The Beatles logo font to add our last name to the invitations and kept the information in a simple font which felt kind of vintage, too. (The font is Hanley and it's worth the money--we use it all the time).
I ordered a few wigs on Amazon for me, Greta and Chris, and Faye's feathery hair (yes, those are our two beautiful daughters!) worked like a charm with those round Lennon-like glasses that were a $2 add on item on Amazon. We sat on the entry bench and set up the camera on the tripod with the timer. That 10 second beep can hold a two-year old's attention for just the right amount of time. For the party (and actual Halloween) we let our girls be whatever they want and Chris and I usually do a couple's costume. We've been Forrest Gump and Jenny, Peter Pan and Hook, Wayne and Garth, Carmen Sandiego and Waldo...
The other part of this yearly tradition is sharing what projects we want to get done before we welcome over 150 people to party in our home.
1. I feel discouraged even writing "stair railing" on the list, but we've been without a stair railing for the better part of this year and it would absolutely be a huge hazard to not have it fixed by the party. The stair railing has to happen. After months of not hearing back from the original contractor that came and measured, we were able to get a different one to come out and measure for an estimate earlier this month. He told us we would have it by the end of September, but he hasn't returned our calls this week. We're keeping our fingers crossed it is still being manufactured.
2. There's a large wall in the living room that has been mostly ignored. We have plans to add a wall treatment, a big piece of art and some proper lighting to make it actually fit in to the rest of the space.
3. I started an entry refresh a couple weeks ago, mostly on accident, but now there's no turning back. The only downer is I ordered a few more hooks for the wallpapered wall, and they are estimated to arrive by October 31st. Maybe they'll come early?
4. There's one more big one we'll talk about next week. ;)
We're looking forward to a really busy month and checking off our to do list and then celebrating with all of our friends, family and neighbors at the end of it. If you missed last year's invite, you'll want to check it out here. We even got Charly in on it! What are you being for Halloween this year?
You are amazing!! I laughed so hard seeing this picture and was in awe all at the same time.
How do 150 people fit in your house!?! That's impressive. And where does everyone park?
People are inside, outside and downstairs. It's nuts. A lot of our neighbors that come will walk and then there's just parking on the street.
We have an annual party too! I'm dying to know what/ how do you feed that many people in your home?
We've done everything from soup shots to a spread of dips. One halloween (our first party) Chris tried to make "bat wings" (just really wings with black bbq sauce) and he ended up being in the kitchen the whole time and everything was a mess. We laugh about it now but we'll never do that again!
You're always so creative!
We were Fred and Wilma one year!
Oh goodness! You guys are hilarious. Is it weird to say that I feel like if our families lived closer, we'd be such great friends? Seriously, I was listening to your latest podcast while driving from work on Monday and caught myself thinking just how much we have in common. Anyway, creepy comment over. Great job on the invite!
We are having a Peanuts Halloween party this year - it is the 50th Anniversary of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown." We will do an outdoor screening after the sun sets. I am stupidly excited about this.
That is so fun!!
Love the invite :)
I'm laughing at your list and remembering something that you either wrote a while ago or said on the podcast where you were telling your sister what all you needed to get done and she was like, "you know, most people just make sure there's enough toilet paper in the bathroom!" I have absolute faith in you guys being able to make it happen!
Nice costumes and invite !
We just moved in, and we are thinking of doing an housewarming-halloween party ! :) I still have to think of what costume to wear 'tho !!
That invite is incredible. You guys are a lot of fun, you can tell. :-)
