A few weeks ago, we shared our happy news that we'd be expecting our third child, another little girl, this summer! So when we were asked to participate in the One Room Challenge again this Spring, we knew exactly the room we'd want to tackle in the allotted 6 weeks--the nursery! Which currently looks like this:
But before we first spruced up the room, back in 2014, it looked like this:
The space has served as our second daughter, Faye's room, for the past three years (check out those pictures here) until she recently moved into the bunk room with Greta, which was coincidentally the room we tackled for the last One Room Challenge (read more about that here)!
A few weeks ago, we cleared out the nursery and sold or gave away most of the things that filled the former room for a fresh start, with the exception of the Graham Glider (which I still love so much!) and Faye's dresser that still has a few clothes in it, although I don't think we'll use it for the new nursery.
It's an Ikea TARVA dresser that we dressed up, but the drawers don't extend fully and it's a little narrow, which already makes the drawer space tight. Although we've used it the past three years, since this room doesn't have a closet, a dresser with more adequate and functional storage would definitely be worth the extra money.
The room itself is pretty small in size--just shy of 10x12--but it's directly across from the master, which makes it perfect for a nursery. Over the next six weeks, we hope to turn it into a soft, serene room with lots of cream and blue accents.

Our first project--adding some pretty box molding to the walls!--is happening this weekend and we'll report on that next week. Can't wait to share how this room comes together over the next 6 weeks with all of you.
Be sure to check out the other One Room Challenge participants below, and if you're participating as a guest, let me know in the comments--we'd love to see!

HELP! I am visiting your website for the first time after seeing "The new Corner Office" in a magazine. Where can I find the DIY directions for making this desk? My husband and I are moving from a 3000+ sq ft home to a 1700sq ft condo and NEED to downsize. This "corner office is Perfect for one of our guest rooms Thank you! Kathy C.
Hi Kathleen! Check out this post!
Congrats on your new baby girl. Excited to see the finished nursery.
I loved your last ORC room, and can't wait to see this soft and serene nursery come to life!
The plan looks beautiful. Can't wait to see what it looks like. Love the changing table.
Hi Julia -
I am a huge fan of your blog and reno journey. :)
I want to work on living room. It is vaulted ceiling (about 20+ft high) so I want to get it right on the first time.
What I want is - change light fixture, change flooring, paint walls.
Could you please help me deciding which one I should tackle first?
Thank you so much!!
Painting walls would be the easiest and most budget friendly, plus if you're changing out your flooring, you don't have to worry about drips as much. Your floors could be the biggest impact (especially if you're going from carpeted to hardwoods) but will be the most expensive. If you could swing it, I'd do that next and lighting last.
Omg! Thank you so much for a quick response Julia!!! :D
Yes - that makes sense! I will follow that haha.
Since I religiously follow your taste... do you mind recommending "big and dramatic" chandelier that might be on your mind or where would be good place to find them?
It depends on the style of the space and your budget, of course. So many dreamy ones on Restoration Hardware but Overstock has really comparable ones, too!
The cole and son wallpaper has been a favorite for years. I think it will look fabulous!
Excited to ORC with you, can't wait to see what you do!
Ohh I love the soft and warm palette this room is going to have. Can't wait to follow along. And congrats!!
Congratulations on your new addition. My kids are teens, so the idea of watching a sweet baby nursery will be fun. Love the plan!
Love the direction this is going! What lighting do you suggest for a vaulted ceiling that is angled within the room. Right now we have the ugly "boob" light as people refer to them but I really want to change ours up.
You have all the options if you're ceiling is vaulted! It kind of depends on the style of the room.
Congratulations on your new baby girl! She is so lucky to be getting such a lovely space of her own! Although I'm sure she will want to be bunking with her big sisters' in what feels like no time!
Oh yay that's gonna be stunning!! Excited to be in this challenge with you!
xo Kate
I love your vision for the room! The bunk room turned out so well, and I'm sure this will be just as beautiful! This is my first season participating as a guest and I'm revealing the powder room I'll be tackling tomorrow. So excited to be doing the challenge with everyone! Best of luck and I look forward to keeping up with your progress! =)
Excited to see it come together! This is random...I notice you have a power outlet where you used to have the crib, and we have that situation too. Did you cover it and how? We have the basic outlet covers on it right now, did you use something else?
One is a phone jack (which we are planning on taking out! haha) and one is a plug that we had special non-removable covers on.
I can't wait to follow along! We are re-doing our master closet as a part of the ORC! I love the challenge :) http://www.charlestoncrafted.com/2017/04/05/one-room-challenge-week-1-master-closet-design-plan/
Can't wait to see the finished nursery! I enjoyed watching the progress of your last one room challenge ????
LOVE that you're tackling a nursery (that's my plan for one of the next One Room Challenges). For now I am just refreshing my brother's bathroom... because I'm running out of rooms at my own house!
Anyways, excited to see it come together :)
I can't wait to see the new nursery! PS If you're looking to move along that Robert Abbey Axis light, I will totally take it off your hands!
Stay tuned! I think we will be. ;)
Ahh! Congrats on the exciting news! I can't wait to take the ORC journey alongside you. Your space is going to look so lovely when it's complete
We have that crib for my son and I love it! I'm sure your room with turn out beautifully.
Congrats and welcome to the 3 girlies club!! Looks beautiful!!
Oh my gosh, it's going to be so precious! And perfect for a 6 week project timeline. I can't wait to see what you do with it! I just wrapped up a Disney themed nursery and I gotta say, nurseries might be my favorite makeovers. I'm going to be making over our front yard during the 6 weeks. Fingers crossed it all gets done!
Oh, that's a good one! We need to do that too.
Oh this is going to be soooo good!
It's going to be beautiful!! I can't wait to see the finished product. I love that you're going with blues. I'm having a girl in 4 weeks, and it's been tough to not add pink. I dished all about it in my nursery plans on my blog today as well. Excited to follow along :)

Ahh so exciting!! I know it's gonna turn out great. This is my first time doing it as a linked participant, it's gonna be so much fun!
If it is anything like your last ORC round it will be absolutely amazing! Excited to follow the progress :) We are attempting a transformation for the first time as guests, eek! Hoping to incorporate a wall color similar to Pine Grove and am SUPER nervous/excited/more nervous about it.
It's still one of our favorite colors. You can't go wrong!
Go, Karen! I will look for your project tomorrow. You can do this.
The plan is beautiful! Can't wait to see it all come together.
Yay! Crazy looking forward to seeing what you guys do with this space!
Such a sweet space for a baby girl! I think you got dibs on the wallpaper before me and I think it will be beautiful in her room.
Julia,
I'm soooo excited to see how your sweet baby girl's nursery turns out! I loved the shared room that you did for Faye and Greta for last season's One Room Challenge, so I know the nursery will be fantastic.
Thanks, Kelly!
It's going to be the sweetest nursery! Love the dreamy yet neutral palette you have planned. So excited to be on this ORC journey with you!
It's going to be so fun! Can't wait to see your living room come together, Jen!
I can't wait to follow along and see how it turns out! Those floors are gorgeous and are going to pair with a soft color pallete so nicely. I'll be joining as a guest participant for the second time and I am so excited to get started :)
Can't wait! I'm also participating in the ORC as a guest, but not many rooms can top the reveal of a nursery :)

love the colors here! i love the girls' rom you already did so can't wait to see this. and congrats!
Yay! I was hoping you two would be taking part in the ORC again! We're also working on a nursery this round – converting our office/storage area into a room for our first little babe, due in July! So excited!!!
Congratulations! That is exciting news. I'll take a peek at your project too.
How exciting for you...for us!
Love a soft and serene nursery...super excited to see this come to life!
Wow..!! I am sure you'll transform it beautifully as always... Good Luck..!!
Fun! I like the chair, and I am glad you are keeping it. I have a local friend with a baby due around the same time as you, and I want to buy all. the. things for her baby girl. ???? I'm sure your nursery will be beautiful.
We are participating as guests again. This will be our third time, and it's our most difficult ORC project to date, and I'm a little nervous. I'll reveal the room tomorrow, but it's both a restoration and a decorating project. Our house was built circa 1885. There are bound to be a few surprises along the way.
Ooooh, sounds like it's gonna be a good one!
I'm crossing my fingers that it will be! It is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better. :)
