Lately, we've been getting a lot of questions about picture lights! Chris hung this picture light up in the living room a little while ago, which actually moved with us from Idaho. It didn't ever make it up on a wall, but I had plans to hang it in the entry before we decided to move. It's a plug in picture light and this walk in our living room had a plug right in the center of the wall! Now it seems meant to be, mounted above the abstract art, and complimenting the blue sofa. Chris added a smart outlet so it turns on when we ask Alexa to turn on the lights in the living room. *My favorite!!!* Making holes in the wall can sometimes feel like a big commitment, but with every hole we make, I get more and more excited! This house is becoming a home–OUR home.
Hanging a picture light can really elevate your art and add a beautiful glow to a space, but I always like to think outside of the box! You could also hang one above some open shelving, or built-ins! There's a gorgeous brass picture light in our new kitchen, hanging above the hutch, and I cannot get over the substantial size!
We searched the internet far and wide to find the best picture lights for you, and you're welcome because apparently they're not as common as I'd like them to be! It's worth noting that picture lights can be hardwired, plugged in, battery operated, and apparently even rechargeable! We have had two hard wired in our kitchen and this one is plugged in, there's plenty of options! Here's the best of the best picture lights, priced for every budget!
1. Rechargeable 16" Gold $36
2. Hardwire 16" Brass $40
3. Plug-in 14" Bronze $45
4. Plug-in 14.5" Brass $66
5. Hardwire 14" Brass $68
6. Battery Remote 11.5" Brass $108
7. Plug-in 10" Brass $119
8. Hardwire 14" Antique Brass $142
9. Hardwire 20" Brass $249
10. Battery 24" Brass $298
11. Hardwire or Plug-in 18" Antique Brass $379
12. Hardwire or Plug-in 18" Bronze $387
13. Plug-in 9" Oil-Rubbed Bronze $399
14. Hardwire 24" Brass $510
15. Plug-in 18" Brass $600
16. Hardwire 11" Aged Bronze $770
Would be great to add on a "rule of thumb" guide about what picture lights size and mounting height based on size of art...and maybe bulb type? Also worth noting for those with art framed in glass there are now alot of options at framers for less reflective glass.
Thanks for another great round up CLJ
Hi there! Do you think a painting needs to be a certain size for it to have a picture light?
Not at allllllll. The light shouldn't be the same size as the art, slightly smaller to 2/3 the size. But I've seen the most dramatic small pieces of art lit by lights. Hope to do the same in our home.
Thanks so much, I appreciate you responding to me!
