Essential Decor: Decorative Vases

February 23, 2023

There was a time when I would use the smallest grocery store vases that came with the grocery store bouquets. You know what I'm talking about–the clear glass ones you hold onto for too long, but they really just collect dust. It wasn't until I upgraded my vases that I realized these are more than just for putting flowers in; they're an essential decor piece!

Upgrading a dinky little vase to something that functions like a vessel but pulls double duty as a sculpture is the sweet spot I try to hit. Of course, in my home, I do a lot of styling, which includes buying fresh flowers or pulling out some of my favorite faux stems, but I always rely on my collection of decorative vases for that. Even when there are no stems in the vase, I still leave my decorative vases out on display because they're basically art.

Vase | Faux Peonies | Side Table | Wallpaper | Bunny Head | Rug

Even Polly's room wouldn't quite feel complete without the vase as a sculptural element and the faux peonies looking fresh. A vase could even be used styled on a shelf, doubling as a bookend, or standing on its own as art.

Size Matters

Black Pot | Mirror | Reeded Chest | Dining Table | Lamp (similar) | Faux Stem

When it comes to decorative vases, size matters! I will say there's no "one-size-fits-all." In fact, it's really about the scale of the surroundings. For example, I placed this smaller-sized vase in our dining room to compliment the large-scaled mirror rather than compete with it. If the mirror were replaced with a small piece of art, I would go larger with the vase and branches.

Kitchen Sources | Forba Pot

I used a medium vase with shorter branches in the range nook, which feels proportionate to the space. Pro tip: don't forget to use a little frog to keep all your stems propped up.

Study Sources | Stone Vase

In the study I used a really large-scale vase on the floor to store some blueprint plans, and I love how it doubles in decor and function.

Shop Decorative Vases

I think one of the best investments you can make in your decor is a vase! Spending $100 on a textural, substantial vase is going to make more of an impact than any collection of knick-knacks or trinkets. Here are a bunch of vases that are sure to be a conversation piece in your home.

  1. Love all the vases! The forba pot that you have from lulu and Georgia in the kitchen is that the small or large size? Thank you
