Amazon Prime Day 2018 | The Best Picks

July 16, 2018

It's Amazon Prime Day! The sale officially starts at 3pm ET (noon pacific) today and goes for 36 hours, and will feature so many deals (I heard more than a million!) but the truth is not all of them are actually great deals--so we'll be scouting out the sale and sharing our favorites as updates to this post, as well as swipe ups in Instagram Stories @chrislovesjulia. (Let me know in the comments if there is something in particular you're looking for and I'll keep an eye out!) The other good news is Amazon extended the sale to more countries than ever--so it's truly a worldwide sale day.

If you're unfamiliar, Prime Day is Amazon's biggest sale day of the year -- much like Black Friday in July. More than a million products will be discounted, but not all at the same time, and not all for the duration of the event. Some will be available only during certain hours as "lightning deals", for example, while others may/absolutely will sell out. Last year, most of the things I shared from toys, to back-to-school supplies to my favorite duvet inserts!--sold out within 30 minutes.

The sale runs through 11:59 p.m. ET on Tuesday night, July 17 and you, technically, need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber to take advantage of Prime Day deals. (I think there are some exceptions, but either way, are there people that aren't Prime members?) If you aren't currently an Amazon Prime subscriber, you can try it for 30 days FREE here.

Below, we'll keep a list of the best/our favorite deals divided by section, once we get a good list going. We'll be updating this list all day long so keep checking back!

  1. We just bought the video monitor to use in our baby's room! So glad you posted about it- we're first time expecting parents and you basically just saved us hundreds of dollars. haha. Can't wait to use it! Thank you!

  2. Hi!! I love your reco's so i will DEF be checking back throughout the day tomorrow. One thought, maybe break up the suggestions between lightning deals vs deal of the day. Lightning deals sell out quick so as we go through the list, we'll be able to know right away if we missed out versus if the deal is ongoing. Thanks for putting the list together and fingers crossed for great deals tomorrow!

  3. Have you read any of the reviews on that video/baby monitor about the confidentiality concerns? I read a few about how the company can access your videos, web history, etc. and it scared me away from the purchase! Not that we have anything to hide, but kind of creeps me out!

  4. Hi Julia! I'm looking for a big comfy fashionable chair for my living room. Something kind of like the 2 you have in yours. Thanks!!

  5. Oh! Very intrigued by the camera you use as your monitor! Do you think it would work for twins in the same room or that I would need two cameras? (Looks like they can hook up to one feed so that would work!)

    1. Absolutely, it gets a good portion of the room. We actually have one in the baby's room, one in our girls' room and one in the playroom because you can also talk through it so it doubles as an intercom for us (even if we're across the country we can say goodnight!)

      1. I mean for that price, it sure does sound like a winner! Thanks for the recco and response!

  6. Please tell me you've browsed the customer review images for that nuLOOM Diamonds rug! I have so many questions about what's happening in the image with the cat! Is that normal behavior for cat people? Is it a celebrity cat??

  7. I'm definitely going to be refreshing this page often today, you always find the best stuff at sales! If you see any great deals on well-reviewed robot vaccuums, I'm going to have a very hard time resisting the buy now button.

    1. I'm not sure if they are going on sale, but check out the Dream Fit brand. The bottom sheet has an extra elastic band that really does hold the sheet on the bed. An added benefit is that the extra bands are two different colors so you know to put one color at the head of the bed and the other color at the foot. They are wonderful sheets!

  8. Looking for a good toaster oven. Not sexy, I know, but I haven’t bought one in years and it’s time. :)

  9. Hi Julia! I'm looking for a good quality oversized throw blanket in a neutral color for my living room!

  10. Thanks for putting his together! I’m looking for a cozy 8x10 rug for our basement. Do you know of any on amazon?

  11. THANK YOU! I just went to amazon to start scoping stuff out and it was so overwhelming. Will check back on your list often.

  12. My husband has been wanting to get camping chairs - so I will be looking for a good pair that is lightweight to travel with but still comfortable. Thank you for the updates!!

The Best of August 2024

August is my unofficial start of autumn — I don't believe in separating seasons, or holidays, for that matter. I prefer to squeeze every ounce of joy I feel from the day, whether that is a sunny beach day (which is how we started the month!) or a cool early fall walk with Cricket and […]

My Favorite Fall Stems This Year

I love fall faux stems. It's funny how it feels a lot more acceptable for stems to be faux in the fall! I guess in the summer you can grow your flowers and cut things from the yard or buy some at the market. In the fall — at least in North Carolina — we’re […]

Hosting a Party? Try One of These 7 Digital Invitation Sites

Last year, Chris wanted to do a fall low-country boil outside, and he wanted to invite 15 people over. He said, "I’m just going to send out a text." I said, "Wait, let me make an invitation!" When someone receives an invitation, they get the feeling that this event means something to you. I think […]
