About a month ago, I submitted a video of me (Chris filmed it) talking all about our basement room (the one with the splattered paint) and how we wanted to turn it into a guest bedroom/office. I went through the details of what we wanted to do from re-drywalling (because of the splattered texture) to installing some recessed light, to adding storage and getting the old rug ripped up.  The Saturday before last, in an expressly delivered FedEx package, was the news that we were chosen as the Grand Prize finalist for True Value’s DIY contest!!

With the win comes $2500 ($2000 to True Value and a $500 American Express gift card) to do all the projects we want in the room as well as an HD Flip Camera to film it all. You will be able to watch all the action as we transform our twilight zone teen’s room into a guest bedroom/office over 5 short videos.  The filming has already started and over the weekend we had our first shopping spree (hence the smirks on Saturday).

Although, it will definitely take longer than 5 three-minute segments to get the space complete, we will be sharing all of the details of things that weren’t caught on film right here.  For everything else, we will keep you updated on when things get posted over on True Value’s Facebook page so you won’t skip a beat AND so you can cheer us on!  Right now, head over there and click on the DIY True Stories tab on the side and you’ll see our bio and original submission video where I blab all about how messed up that room is…..in my pajamas (what was I thinking!?)

  1. Way to go marcums! Your profile pic is lovely and I am sure your room will be too. Ken had a thought on the concrete puring of the floor. Let me know when you get there.
