Whew! I feel like I am coming up for air at last!  After spending the last 5 days almost entirely in my studio, I shipped off all 18 paintings to the dentist’s office in Tulsa this morning.  It was an exciting project that really challenged me–in a good way.  As promised, I am back to share more than just the Robert Frost painting I did, but unfortunately since we were packing these late last night, I only snapped a photo of four before they left my hands.  The rest will have to be photographed and on site and shared later. ‘Kay?
I ventured out of my completely abstract scene that you are used to seeing, and settled on contemporary and abstract landscapes with lots of thick, bold paint to contrast moody skies in sort of a surf and turf collection of land and seas.

It was fun and challenging to think up and paint so many different landscapes in a brief amount of time.  It took me almost a complete day to paint my last painting. Each tweak, I felt uneasy about.  I wanted to be proud of each painting and after painting the last one over 4 times…I finally felt like I could be done and send them off to be there in time for the grand opening next week.

I couldn’t spend all that time in my studio without offering you something, too.  So, to unwind my mind, I painted another abstract in my ikat-inspired series and just added it to our Etsy shop.  It is the first horizontal one I have done like this.

It has lots of deep navy with turquoise, green, and creamy peach accents that almost makes it feel peacock-ish.  As always the thick brushstrokes give it lots of texture.  It was so rehabilitating to keep brushing on the rich paint colors while my mind decompressed. You can purchase this painting here.

Now that I feel like I am up for a breathe, what have you all been up to?  Is it really almost August?!

  1. You are SO talented. I can’t handle it. I love that last one. I’m digging the horizontal. :)

  2. My favorite is the first one. It reminds me of an ocean with lots of sky. I could see myself making up lots of stories about that painting if it were to hang in my home for years.

  3. These are really pretty Julia! Great job. I love the ikat one as well. I love seeing your art and it is inspiring as I have recently done my own painting (will blog about it as soon as I can) so thanks :) For the inspiration and beautiful artwork!

  4. What a dream to be finished!!! Even though the time frame to get everything done pushed you almost to the limit, I think you needed it! Every artist needs that I’m sure. A big deadline to push your creative juices to the max. and look at what you came up with!? I love all of them and can’t wait to see them inside the dental office!! Who knows, if I’m ever in OK, maybe I’ll have to drive over to that dental office and see those in person! Good work girlfriend!

Your studio has seen a LOT of action lately! So happy you have that retreat to run off to!!
