10 Pieces I'd Love to Add to the Living Room | Fall Edition

September 25, 2014

Last Christmas, we were in Target, and I overheard an older couple looking at some plaid Christmas sheets saying, "These would be perfect in the guest room!" I cry-laughed later to Chris telling him the story because Christmas sheets?! For the guest room!? Are we ever going to get to a point where I have nothing left to buy but Christmas sheets for the guest room!? Since moving here, we have been so focused on the big things and big purchases--floors, fence, an area rug that actually fits, lighting, baseboards (for crying out loud!!) that  spending money on the little things, something as simple as a throw blanket or new candles makes me feel guilty when there are so many large purchases. Do you ever feel that way? #Firstworldproblems.

Forever and a day ago, I posted about 8 things I'd love to add to your living room. That was over two years ago! The point was, and is, that sometimes you just need some key accessories--or accessories at all--to totally change the vibe of a space. Truthfully, we need to accessorize the living room bad style. I haven't purchased new pillows for our couches for years. Literally, years. Last night, I told Chris that our house is lacking in the comfort-factor. I think it is due to that lack of lamps and good lighting in general, but also textures. Accessories! So, I've compiled a few Fall MVP accessories that I'm dying to add to our living room, and maybe yours, too.

Fall-Pieces-to-Love

Brass Lamp / Wool Blanket (a steal!) / Camel Knitted Pillow / Gray Knitted Pillow / Rope Basket / Tissue box (be still my heart) / Brass Planter / Metal Hoop Stand / Bison Print! / Pumpkin Chai Candle

I'm making a new goal to add some little things to our home this season (don't worry, the baseboards are coming too!) to help the home-y factor. Are accessories a priority in your spaces, or do you struggle like me?

Ps. There are 9 more Fall-ish accessories I gathered for my Houzz article this month right here. You'll love 'em.

  1. We have the little house tissue box and love it. It currently sits in the bathroom but it's cute enough to move around the apartment when someone has the sniffles ;) so in love with your style, and now I'm on the hunt for a set of those little brass planters!

    1. I ordered this one in the middle of the night while I was feeding Faye and I didn't even remember until the morning when I got the email confirmation. I think my tired brain has the best ideas. ;)

  2. I bought the tissue box from Urban Outfitters and it's pretty cute! I'm so tempted to draw on it though...I'm all accessories and no furniture! Need to turn that around. The pieces you picked all up the cozy factor and are seasonally inspired but not necessarily seasonal decor. Good choices!

  3. I am so with you. Our house also needs baseboards, a new fence, a new fridge... so many big purchases that I hesitate to buy any small things! However, I am conning myself into buying a new duvet cover for our comforter (very nice, but no longer my style), mostly because it'd be *so much* easier to wash. And I know a new print would make me super happy. So now I'm stalking every decor site I can think of for a punchy pop of color.

Though the tissue box is only $6... it might go in the cart too. :D

  4. Love! I just bought that tissue holder on clearance at our Meijer yesterday for $2.50. It is adorable. And plastic, so hopefully the kids won't destroy it.

  5. I am the worst at accessorizing. Whenever I'm in Home Goods, I get so excited, and I see the vision, and then I think, man, we need bookshelves...this money could go towards that...or a new rug, or a new couch for heaven sakes!

    I love that tissue box!

  6. I agree - but it's so hard. There are so many cute accessories out there in stores that I have to physically hold myself back (not really) from buying all the things, since there are so many other bigger purchases to make for the home. Oh well! By the way, that photo is of a bison, not buffalo. Bison is my alma mater's mascot, so I'm proud of the mighty bison!

      1. They are interchangeable, but "bison" is technically correct. They were called buffalo by early settlers from Africa and Asia, because they looked like their version of a buffalo.

    1. I know you didn't say where you were from, but if your alma mater is the 3-time FCS champ/College Game Day 2-time Super Stars(!!) the I say Go Bison! \m/ I have seen that artwork in a few homes around town, and just to clarify, the 's' is pronounced as a 'z' :)

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]
