(Not shown: Us completely covered in dirt from head to toe and Chris’s stiff neck.)Chris handled the sod cutter and I attempted to roll up the sod and move it out of the way. Let me tell you, removing sod is awkward, dirty, heavy and a little creepy if bugs aren’t your thing. Â (Bugs are not my thing.) Also, because there are sprinkler heads a long the fence, we’ll have to get the sod along the edges manually.
The good news is that removing all that sod only took us about an hour and bonus!, we got a major workout in while doing it. Â We haven’t pinpointed exactly what we’re laying in between the boxes, but would love some sort of stone path (I’ve been pinning), but really, that’s second to getting the plants IN THE GROUND. They’re a comin’.
The best part of that entire video is that Greta found it perfectly natural to clear sod in her green fairy dress! We should ALL garden in fairy dresses (mine will be yellow). Her declaration and determination that she will pick it up and then when that attempt didn’t work, did what all resourceful fairies do….call on mom for help! LOVE IT! Thanks Greta for reminding us all not to take life or ourselves too seriously ;-)

Are you using the cut sod to fill in any bare patches (by the torn out rose bushes, etc), or did you pull a quick one at craigslist the sod to defray or cover the cost of the cutter?
