It's my latest painting that I thought I finished this morning, and even blogged about it. And posted it (you quick readers may have got a glimpse at the first "finished" product). And then I saw the post and it didn't feel right. So I deleted it. Put more time into the painting and it feels right now. It has texture and depth. It feels almost dark--I like that. There's lots of layers of paint there. I'll let you take a glimpse at what I believe to be the bottom layer:
It's true--this humungous canvas was a thrift find. Only $7. It had cat fur and dust bunnies all over the canvas mat. Mustard trim surrounded a 70s-looking painting. I was in love with the potential. So, I took it home and painted that mustard--black. I vacuumed the mat and put more layers of paint over all those autumn colors (I think the 70s were obsessed with autumn.) Lots of layers. I added real wire for my birds to perch on for a special touch and hung it in our living room.
(And because I know you are curious.
Here's what my original "finished" product looked like:
So glad I put more time into it. )

I absolutely love this! Gorgeous job. I wish I could hang it in my living room!! (Found your blog through the photo of your stairway gallery wall on Pinterest)
Wow, I so love this painting. I don't know what it is - the scale, the soft background color, or the fact that it would fit so nice into a traditional or modern space. You did an AMAZING job - would never think to paint over that - but what a deal and a HUGE savings. I'm so impressed!!!
