Last year I shared a trend alert for scenic wall mural wallpaper! To me, murals are so elegant and traditional, and at one point I was considering installing one in the dining room. The more I thought about it, the less it made sense for the dining room to be the mural room. I think a mural can add a lot of dimension to a room, especially if plenty of wall space. Recently known as the music room, the study was a white box with a lot of bare walls–the perfect opportunity for a surround mural. The other options would have been to paint (been there, done that), or install a patterned wallpaper. Using a patterned wallpaper in here felt was a no to me because there would be an alarming amount of pattern repeat! Also I've never ever done a mural wallpaper before, and this was the perfect opportunity to seize the moment!

It's so stunning I cannot handle it and how about that bubble light?? I think this mural instantly adds some formality to the room, which feels so right for a study. It also pairs really nicely with the paint color we chose, and the custom wainscoting!
(The photo above of all the furniture from this room reminds me of people waiting to pop out for a surprise party or something--haha) Murals can add some formality to a space, but of course there's playful murals too! Many times I've seen them used in kids rooms which is fun, but this one is so elegant. I especially love how this room has become an art piece in and of itself. It tells a whole story, and I'll never get bored because every inch of it is so special and unique!
For this mural, we used The Mural Source which allowed us to select the scene we wanted, and give the dimensions of each wall and window. From there, they were able to customize the mural according to our measurements, print and send it our way!
We were lucky enough to find an incredible wallpaper installer who is a master at his craft, and he's done every single wallpaper install in this house – the water closet, Polly's room, the back hallway, and now this room. We hope he never gets tired of us because believe it or not, I'm not done with wallpaper!
When you've done wallpaper so many times, why not think about a mural? It can set a mood and transform a space into an encompassing scene!

I keep coming back to look at this post, because this room is so beautiful and soothing. I’ve never seen mural wallpaper like this, but it’s amazing. Sort of feels like a scene from a Jane Austen novel.
The bubble light with the traditional ceiling medallion…the mural and paint color! It’s all so good! Can you source the ceiling medallion ? It’s gorgeous!
The piano! Removed IG from my phone and trying to reduce screen time lately so I must've missed the update. I REALLY hope that's Chris' grandmother's piano that was rescued from the movers!

I do love a modern light in a mostly traditional room - feels current rather than a historical home. My first house was cottagey but I was just learning how to decorate and since then I have a definite lean to clean and simple contemporary or ranch style homes- but if I ever end up in a trad or cottage place again, or even just a home with an extra room to make moody/retreat-like, something is getting tree wall murals of some kind!

The aesthetic and feel seem as though the room's elements have been there forever; formal, yet warm and welcoming. The light fixture, although above most people's price point, truly brings a magical feel. I'd be sitting in the space, too, simply enjoying the view! One of my favorite designs of yours. This room is AMAZING!! It might be my favorite out of all that you’ve done so far. I do love a good wall paper, but never considered a mural. If I had a study, I’d be totally copying you! I have a feeling we are going to be seeing a lot more murals now that you’ve done one!
