Now that we have our home gym in place, I get a lot of questions about what my at home workout looks like. Probably because I've been very transparent about the gym being an essential part of my morning routine. I’ve been doing this for years and, honestly sometimes it’s the only time I leave the house in a day. So with a home gym in place I'll share how I'm implementing it into my routine.
Ceiling Fan | Yoga Mats | Weight Bench | Ergatta Rower | Dumbell Set | Adjustable Dumbells
I'm still leaving for the gym every morning at 5am. I use a lot of equipment (too much to ever fit in this space), and it's good for my mental health to get outside. Once school's out and I'm not having to wake up as early, I'm hoping to start running to and from the gym which is about a mile away. At the gym, I have been following the Power Program in the Sweat app, but I'm looking forward to trying the Burn app, too!
About 6 months ago, I was looking for a way to separate my work day from after work hours and I started spending 30 minutes in this space doing cardio and watching a show. The home gym is where I go at the end of a work day for a wind-down cardio session. The rower is perfect for a quick 15 minute sweat. You’ve heard me talk about Ergatta before — it’s a non-instructor led, game-based connected water rower and I love it. It burns calories at twice the rate of spinning and gives me a full-body LOW IMPACT (essential for me) workout in just 15 minutes. I’m obsessed. (CLJ followers can use code CLJ50 for $50 off.) Now, I dedicate my mornings to weights, knowing I'll get my cardio after work.
Usually the gym is pretty busy on Saturdays, which is also my day to sleep in (as much as my body will allow). It's nice to have a more leisurely morning and just pop into the home gym and do an abs circuit on the mat and bench with the free weights. I've been adding elevation to my speed walks on the treadmill. Whatever I can do to get my endorphins and energy up after work really helps me end the day on a high note!
I'm a creature of habit and right now this is really working for me. I also can't help but think about how in 2020 the unexpected happen and we weren't able to go to the gym for months! It's nice knowing we've carved out our own space in our own home for exercise whenever we'd like.
