If there is any place that could use refreshed it is the bathroom, always. Right? (Hehe.) Well, being renters--it's hard when you can't paint, change light fixtures, or move around any other permanents things like towel racks, so redoing a bathroom was really easy. Especially since our bathroom is tiny. However, just by switching out the shower curtain and changing some towels and hanging a picture, it really livened things up and made it LOOK a lot bigger.
Here is the original. Not too bad, but with a small bathroom, that brown shower curtain cut the room in half. I am not sure what I was thinking with that green bath mat or the towels hanging...which you can't see...for a reason. They were usually green, too. Or white, or whatever towel wasn't being used to shower at the time--sometimes it even had bleach stains on it. GGGrrreaat. So maybe it was that bad.
The new shower curtain immediately added some visual square footage, right? Not to mention, intrigue. A couple other things I like about it: it doesn't slap you in the face when you walk in the room AND it was free. Yeah, free. Kinda. I had some old textbooks from my college days that BYUI wouldn't buy back because they conveniently stopped using the book the semester after I completed the course. So, I have been lugging them around ever since. A couple weeks ago, I heard that Amazon.com has a book buyback. (Am I the LAST person to figure that out?) So I checked to see if they would buy back any of my textbooks. Sure enough, they did!! And it cost me nothing! I just printed off a pre-paid shipping label, packed the thing up and dropped it off at the post office. Within two weeks, I had a credit on Amazon. You can buy anything on that site. So we picked out this shower curtain and a TV wall mount for a grand total of $1.98. Free shipping. Booyah. So, yeah...I like the shower curtain A LOT.
The brown shaggy mat (pictured above) and the towels (there is a matching hand towel by the sink) I got at Ross for a steal! My friend, Meagan, insists that you can't beat their price on Kitchen/bathroom stuff and she is RIGHT. The mat and pretty towels cost less than $15 combined. I love how the towels have a nature-y print on them, it carries that theme from the curtain. The picture hanging above is actually a print I did for my printmaking class in college. It is of my mom and dad and the warm browns/tans with that white and gray mat really tie in the towels, mat and curtain. WOOT!
The last little touch was just moving some vases I had in our bedroom (Chris didn't even know we had them in there) to the cabinet above the toilet. I usually don't LOVE things above cabinets, but I think it adds a little more height to the room and interest.
So, there you have it. For about $15, I refreshed and enlarged our bathroom without touching anything permanent...although I would love to get some paint on those walls. :)
Jules. Inspiring. I'm so glad you are coming next week. We are redoing my bathroom. I too have some non-negotiable things to work around. Like pink tile. Start looking on amazon! i have textbook credit there too!

It looks fabulous!!! I love that shower curtain. I feel like I'm walking into a gorgeous forest!!! It is great! Worst decision ever, giving Ryan the "shower curtain purchase" job on our first apartment. BAD choice. And he agreed after I begged to get a new one. He agreed that having a plain color curtain is boring.
Isn't Ross great??/ The one that I go to in Tallahassee, is surprisingly quiet and clean! It is a great afternoon get-away for me and Brin. I am SO happy with the purchases I made there and my mom thoroughly enjoyed the newly decorated bathroom upstairs!
I love it, you did a great job. I saw that shower curtain at bed bath and beyond and thought that would be so cute, now seeing it in a bathroom makes me like it even more!
