Bathroom Rug Fashion Show!

December 17, 2020

Fashion show! Fashion show! Fashion show at lunch!

We're finishing up the final few details in our bathroom and we're realizing there are a few tweaks we might want to make. The lantern in front of the window (I love!) but I think we need a more opaque light in front of the window (so many lines!) and as much as I like the soft linen curtains, once they were up--I was craving something deeper (trying a navy velvet we have next!). I don't want to rush the finishing touches, because I do enjoy this part and these details will really make the hard finishes of our bathroom truly sing. We've worked so hard to get to this point, so give me a few more days to play with the finishes.

BUT! Today we're sharing how 5 different rugs from our line look in the space! This is as much a show and tell/can't make a decision/what's your favorite? as it is a lesson in how much a rug can completely change the vibe of a space.

These are all 5x8 rugs from the Jules line and Rosemarie line (linked below). The floors are heated in here--a luxury we couldn't recommend enough if you live in a climate that has winters--but I love the softness a rug adds, both visually and underfoot.

So! Here's the rug fashion show!

  1. Jules Lagoon/Brick: This rug goes with everything and anywhere. We already have it in our living room and down the hallway, but third times a triple charm in here?

2. Jules Antique/Sky: This is the first time we're sharing this specific rug in our home and it's truly stunning. It's muted and looks antique and I love how it blends with the floor, but definitely adds something special, too.

3. Jules Denim/Spice: This rug has lots of rusts and navy in it so it carries on the warm and cool tones that are a trend throughout the rest of the space!

4. Rosemarie Gold/Sand is almost unexpected, but man, I'm crushing on ochre hard right now. It picks up the brass touches throughout the room in a really soft way.

5. Finally, we have Rosemarie Oatmeal/Lavender which is secretly one of my favorite rugs in the collection. It's soft and subtle and those rust tones sure bring out the cabinets.

Of course the curtains are going to change, which will change the look, but would love to hear your favorite rug in here!?

  1. Gold/Sand! I'm with you, absolutely did not expect that to be a favorite, but once I saw it, I couldn't imagine it any other way. It does pick up the brass hardware in a really beautiful way. There is so much cool tile in the space, that I guess the room can handle a nice warm rug. It's a real stand-out!

  2. Love the second rug with hints of blue. Also love the warm wood tones in the cabinetry.

Do you have to have curtains on this window? I wonder if they aren’t too heavy for the space. I’d want that killer tub to shine!

  3. Number @ Jules Antique/Sky is my favorite, I think...but I could see Denim/Spice being really nice with the navy curtains if you put those in.....how on earth can you choose? lol

  4. I think Antique/Sky looks spectacular in your bathroom. The blue is a little unexpected and I love it so much.

  5. The rugs runners (gold/sand) are out of stock everywhere. I need both 5 x 8 and runner! I can get 5 x 8 but not runner—do I chance it that the runners will be available soon? Or is it an older rug out of production?

  6. Denim/Spice is a clear winner for me! Brings forth the color in the wall tiles and will work with darker curtains as well.
Oatmeal and Antique disappears into the tile floor. Using those make me question why have a rug at all? Not that the rugs aren't beautiful but they get lost in this space.
Gold/Sand would work if you would have a gold planter to the gigantic palm tree that should be in the corner of room :-)

  7. Is the distance between the edge of the rug and the front of the cabinet sufficient to use the sink without standing half on/half off the rug? From this angle it seems awkward.

  8. They are all so beautiful! I especially like the gold/sand and the oatmeal/lavender. I think it’s a good call on trying navy curtains, too!! Which will go very nicely with the gold/sand rug.

  9. The oatmeal lavender #5 is _so_ good imo. It perfectly matches all the other colors in the room but in a way that feels like it's adding rather than just emphasizing.

  10. Antique Sky because the larger pattern is what you need against the smaller tile pattern. Plus the blue just gives that beautiful spa like feeling!!Also will look really good with the blue curtains! Antique sky all the way!

  11. I love the Denim/Spice rug in your bathroom. The spice hues really look great with the cabinets and navy curtains would look great with it too.

  12. Love the office reference! :) Beautiful rugs, the bathroom shines with all of them! Which I love. Because it just shows it the foundation is beautifully constructed and thought out, everything else is just icing on the cake. Love the blue curtains in your stories too. I love adding small pieces of furniture or other furnishings if possible to bathrooms.

  13. Julia, I would love to have seen the natural/ocean rug as an option as well. The curtains you decide on will make a big difference on which rug works best.

  14. Since I can trip over air I don't feel safe when a rug blends in with the surrounding floor. You may want a rug that has an edge that's easy to see when lights are low or if you're half asleep. It's hard to tell from the photos but the denim/spice might be enough contrast with the tile and should also coordinate with the proposed curtain switch.

  15. Denim spice or lagoon sand, especially with navy velvet curtains, and if you could extend the curtains rods a bit more to the corners I feel it could look so pretty.

    1. Yes, I agree about extending the curtain rod. Not sure why it ends on both sides where it does leaving only a few inches of wall on either side.

  16. Love the oatmeal and lavender!!! So gorgeous! I love my rug that I got! I need to convince my husband to buy more! ❤️

  17. Oh man! I’ve been thinking about the Rosemarie gold/sand for our bedroom, and this might just push me over the edge to do it! Lovely space!!

  18. I personally like the last two options most (surprisingly for the ochre which is not a color I usually am into). But I also want to petition to see the black white graphic collection too! Would be a fun exercise to see how the feel changes with a modern element.

  19. With the current curtains I love the Denim/Spice (which I own! It looks great in my entryway!), but I am trying to picture darker curtains and I think it would look awesome with the Oatmeal/Lavender!

  20. Either Denim - Spice, Antique - Sky, or Oatmeal - Lavender!!! The gold is pretty but too jarring, and the top left is too dark.

  21. I think they honestly all look 100 - you can't go wrong!!

My tops are denim spice and lagoon brick -- they look luxe and sophisticated in the best way. I hear you on the unexpected gorg factor of gold sand too, it makes the light feature pop so beautifully. So fun!

  22. Love the Lavender/Oatmeal in your bathroom. We have the Lagoon and absolutely love it in our home. Thank you for the beauty you share with us!

  23. Maybe this is dumb question, but don't you have to wash a bathroom rug every so often, wouldn't you want a rug that was washable?

  24. My gut reaction is lavender/oatmeal! I like how soft the colors are in here. Though I do love Lagoon (it's in my foyer) and just ordered the denim spice for my office.

  25. Not sure about the rugs but I really hope those custom patterned curtains are going to end up behind the tub! Those will really make this space sing!????

  26. My first reaction was definitely Lagoon/Brick, but knowing that you will change the curtains to a velvet navy, I'm curious how that will look with Gold/Sand! Ultimately, after scrolling up and down over and over, I think Oatmeal/Lavender is my favorite. It blends in nicely. One of my favorite pieces of advise you have given is that not everything can be the star. With so many amazing elements in your new bathroom, maybe a soft, muted rug that blends in nicely is just what the space needs.

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]
