Casual Friday

Casual Friday

November 11, 2016

Chris and I just got back from a 24 hour getaway and I'm feeling all sorts of refreshed and re-engerized. It was our 8th anniversary on Tuesday and we were both too busy finishing up projects and the one room challenge and watching the election to really celebrate. So as soon as the reveal went live on Wednesday, we skipped town and slept and slept and ate way too much, talked about projects for the rest of the year and went to the movies--which always feels like a time luxury. We got back last night, ready to be the best parents all over again and ready to finish off this year strong.

Other fun things this week!

Everyone loves a touch of plaid through the colder months and I stumbled upon this navy and green plaid ottoman that I can't stop thinking about. The legs are perfect. It's so rich...and 25% off...and has free shipping right now. I should just get it! (I'm getting it.)

Megan Plug's Guest Suite is dreamy

Since we've been gone, I'm just now going through all the reveals of the One Room Challenge (the guest participants are next on my list) and I'm truly loving seeing everyone's personality come through their spaces. House Beautiful featured all the final rooms on their site if you'd like to flip through the rooms in all one spot. I'm not one to pick favorites, but I would cut and paste Megan Pflug's guest suite (pictured above) in our own home in a heartbeat. I love the use of mixing textures with a really soft color on the wall paneling. Annnddd now our bedroom needs this paneling + wallpaper treatment asap. Brava, Megan. Really.

This Thankful doormat didn't make it into my layered doormat post a couple weeks back, but how appropriate would it be greeting guests this time of year.

Someone on Instagram this week asked, "How do you address patching walls from moving art around?" The truth is, sometimes if I know another piece of art is going to cover up a previous nail hole, I don't worry about it. But! If it's going to be shown, I put a little spackle on it and touch up the paint the next time I have the can out--usually once every other month. This spackle is my absolute favorite because it doesn't need primer on top of it or sanded. It goes on so smooth and easy and dries quick if I am ready to paint right then.

What does it mean if I have every single one of these things in my closet? Including, probably, 5 painting outfits.

Psst. I included this special Fawn doll in last year's gift guide and it sold out within an hour. It's back in stock now but will likely sell out before the Holiday shopping hits hard. I'd scoop it up if you're looking for a sweet and special gift.

Speaking of holidays, our girls would freak over THIS Advent Calendar.

If you follow me on Instagram stories, you know this week we tore up our half bath, yes, the very first space we ever completed around here. We were just going to replace the sink and faucet (finally) but then the heating vent needed moved, which meant tearing out the shelves and patching the floor. Which lead us to a trip to Ikea for a new vanity. You know those kinds of projects right? Truthfully though, although that room has been good enough for some time, it never felt completely finished with that old faucet staring me down. So we're really excited to share with you the simple refresh soon.

Lastly, if you want to make your meals matter this Thanksgiving, you can donate delicious, home-cooked meals to families in need through Blue Apron's fourth annual Thanksgiving Dinner Drive. In the past three years, they've donated more than 125,000 meals and this year, we're working with them in hopes to beat that number. If you're a Blue Apron member, you can help us reach our goal by donating your Thanksgiving week box in your Delivery Schedule . Not a member? Donate here. And then give it a try! You can get 3 meals off your first order by clicking here.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. That guest room is speaking directly to my heart. I'm spending the weekend layering textures of soft gray. Also, I have ONE of those romantic feathers, and now I'm getting a whole bouquet. Thanks for the inspo!

    1. If you're in the Instagram app, click the little house in the bottom left. This will bring you to your home screen. You should see circles at the very top of people you follow. If you click on any one of those, that is their "story"

  2. I really hope you chose the new gray ikea hemnes vanity! I'm looking to redo our master bath and have been struggling to get a cohesive plan together! Can't wait to see what you do :)

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]

Raise your hand if you panic when your phone's low battery notification turns on? (Just me??) There's nothing worse when I'm out on a fun holiday outing taking video memories of my family, and I see that red light. Or I'm traveling and stuck in the airport on a layover...it gives me anxiety! I've tried […]
