Casual Friday : Arched Mirror, New Beds for Greta's Room, What I actually bought from the Nordstrom sale, Demo begins, Our Favorite games and more!

Well, I haven't ordered a bed for our master bedroom yet, but we did get this amazing arched floor mirror from Rejuvenation that has doubled the size of our room, I swear. Here are some other fun arch mirrors!

I also somehow ordered two beds for Greta's room. That's right--two! Currently, we have a king mattress in Greta's bedroom and a queen in Faye's since Greta's room has an en suite bathroom, it serves as a great second guest room and then Greta and Faye could bunk together in the case of lots of guests. But! This week, we welcomed Chris's brother's family for a few days and they all stayed in Greta's room and we kept thinking how nice it would be to have two queen beds in there, on either side of the window and move the king bed to Faye's room. Greta's doubly excited about the idea because we often have her cousin (similar in age) sleepover and this means they can each have their own bed.

So I have unofficially started designing Greta's room in my head and purchased two of these gray Jenny Lind beds (so gorgeous and classic!). We also keep hitting our heads on that light fixture so that has to go sooner than later. I have a lot ideas for the space, a pretty wallpaper on all the walls and maybe some trunks and the foot of the beds. But none of the designs include the red carpet that is currently in place. We may replace it sooner than we planned just because it's so busy and hard to work around. But I'm also trying not to put more on our plates right now. We're starting our mini kitchen makeover next week! (more on that next week!), so perhaps a pair of new beds and a new light fixture will work for now...or maybe I'll just make a mood board to whittle away at. ;)

 

Other fun things this week

• We got a surprise call from our contractor on Wednesday saying that they would be starting demo yesterday instead of in a few weeks! We were happily surprised and cleared a few rooms immediately. They really only prepped yesterday and hopefully will get a good start today. I realize I still owe you concrete plans of what we'll be doing and that's coming. We've been working with a great architectural draftsman (Sundance Drafting & Design for you locals) to help put all of our ideas to code and to paper and even 3D renderings to show you! We figured waiting until those are ready would be more helpful than trying to explain it all through just words.

• Speaking of kids rooms, this one (via @erinkestenbaum) is big time inspiring me for Faye's. it just feels so fun and classic and whimsical and Faye.

• The Nordstrom sale is public access now and you can see all of my picks here. But here's what I actually ended up buying:

  1. These heels I've had for over a year (in nude and black) and couldn't recommend them enough!
  2. This long black pencil skirt.
  3. These cut out booties in suede (although I really love the black, too!) to transition me into fall.
  4. These nike bike shorts!
  5. This black raincoat with a removable hood---I love the long length!
  6. This super cuddly UGG throw in charcoal that makes the best gifts.
  7. And this cozy oatmeal sweatshirt with matching joggers for lounging.

• Tell me you've seen Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers. Tell me you cried, too.

 

• I've been meaning to upgrade my camera for a couple years and finally bit the bullet and ordered this Canon 5D Mark IV on sale. I can't wait for it to arrive!

• Lastly, we brought our favorite group game, LCR Wild, to the Marcum reunion last week (below is a photo I snapped of Chris and his whole family! He's the youngest of 8!) and played with 29 Marcums!! We told everyone ahead of time that we had a fun game to play and anyone that wanted to needed to bring 4 $1 bills. The game lasted 3 hours and we laughed and screamed the entire time. In the end--GRETA WON $116!! And it was like we all won--her reaction was the best. If you haven't played this game with a large group, it's a must. Here's more of our favorite games!!

  1. Hi, Just wondering if you like the mattresses you ordered and if yes, would you share the vendor. I'm looking for a new plush mattress and I'm sad that I cannot locate what happened to Gel Tech foam bed-- where I got my last one.

  2. The bedrooms will look great! We have 2 of the jenny Lind beds in white for both our girls & Looooove them! The grey is pretty. I went with white bc I just kept it simple for decor over the yrs. Lol!

    Something good...we are ( patiently impatiently) waiting for our contractor to call. We had an architect draw up an addition for our home that will be a family room/ kid hang out room & move our dinningroom in there. Our old dinning room, would then be transformed into a office & momma gets her own craft room sewing room! Ekkk. Of course they can come craft with me. Wink wink.Haha! Also finishing the outside details,thick trim around windows, shake shingles,changing porch post. Fingers crossed we get to do it all.
    We remodeled 9yrs ago & I keep brainstorming idea's Lol. But, Im glad we have lived in here & taken some time to see other ways our space can be used. I would absolutely recommend to others to take your time with remodels & major changes. Im so glad I have.

  3. Great photo of Chris and his beautiful family! Oh, what fun it must be to come from a large family! There were only four of us...all girls. Fortunately, I married a man who was the youngest of 8 and have loved every moment of being with his family. So much fun, so many stories, so much laughter.
    I love, love, love the inspiration room for Faye's room! So, excited for you that the work has begun! Will be following along every step of the way!

  4. 2 queens is great. We swapped out a K for 2 Q’s in a room that could handle it. The best thing we ever did in our JH home. With big family groups we can “pack em and stack em”
    LOVE the game-always evokes hours of laughs, shrieks and howls.

  6. My mom's room growing up had 2 full metal beds just on either side of the window. She loved it as a kid and it didn't feel odd because that's just how it always was. My sister and I loved it too, especially being at Grandma's and staying where Mom had had sleepovers! You're going to love it!

  7. I LOVE your inspiration photo for Faye’s room! Those framed pictures are adorable and the color is so amazing and unique! I can’t wait to see what you do with it.

  8. After hitting our heads during move-in on a chandelier in the middle of our open floor plan, I clipped the chain together with a weight-bearing carabiner so it was out of the way. It may have stayed that way for wayyyyy too long, but it worked until we found a light we liked to replace it with!

  10. I LOVE that arched mirror - it's gorgeous!! I've been thinking of getting something similar to that for my living room. What's your opinion on putting tall standing mirrors like that not in a bedroom? I think it could look great, but I think my husband would give me the side eye!

  11. What about a Murphy bed in Greta’s room? Or in Faye’s too if there’s room. That way they have more space to stretch out in the normal day to day, but have an extra bed for guests when needed. Just a thought!

    I've been eyeing an arched mirror like that one for our master but my husband isn't on board because he was worried about our (admittedly crazy) toddlers shaking it and it falling over. I said that we could probably secure it with some kind of velcro earthquake strap thing- I was wondering what your thoughts are now that you have a leaning floor mirror. Do you feel like it's not too fragile and securable? Thanks so much!!

    1. This comes with anti-tip hardware! We've had a leaner mirror in our bedroom for years and as long as you secure it correctly we have never worried

  13. I hadn't seen the Mr. Roger's trailer yet... and yes, I just cried my eyes out. Also, Chris looks just like his mom! Can't wait to follow along on your renovation progress. :)

  14. We play LCR every Christmas Eve with our family and it's so fun! We've played it with $1 and $2 lottery tickets before, which is fun because you don't know immediately how much you win. It's fun if everyone labels the their tickets, too!

  15. Do you just have one LCR Wild game set for everyone or do you have a few? I bought it after I saw your stories but now I’m not sure if one is enough for a group of 20.

  16. Oh my gosh, I forgot how bossy and loud that red carpet is. I don't think I could deal with it- ripping it up and painting the subfloor would be preferable for me until I had the brain space to work on that room!!

  18. Just got the Homebody tee in Gold today, already have the black Homebody sweatshirt (heart eyes). Also LOVE LRC (Left Right Center). Was introduced to it by a co-worker and we played it at a work retreat not that long ago. We used poker chips, but still had an awesome time!! Can't wait to see what you've dreamed up for Greta's room. Living vicariously through y'all cuz I have 3 girls as well and only 2 small bdrms for them ;)

  19. Love love love watching your new house unfold, but that family photo of Chris' family really takes the cake on this post. What a beautiful moment captured - everyone looks so happy and content. I'm sure they'll all treasure having that for years (decades!) to come.

  22. The Sister Parish fabric on the curtains in your Erin Kestenbaum inspiration photo is gorgeous. It looks like it's only available to the trade. Are you thinking about DIYing a similar pattern? Scouting for a fabric that's available to the public with similar colors and pattern? Or, splurging on the real deal?

  25. I had two beds in my room growing up (granted, they were twin and not queen sized--I wish!) and it was so fun. Nice for sleepovers but even fun to have a separate "reading" bed sometimes!

    And I definitely cried at the Mr. Rogers trailer!

    I love your site, congratulations on your new home! I purchased the Sky Terracota area rug you have in your master bedroom for my family room to match with my dark green sofa. (I copied inspiration from your mood board with the dark green bed combo) I love the colors in the rug and I loved the price, I got it from Amazon in the 7'-6" x 9'-6" they called it Loloi Loren Collection, HOWever - the rug moves a lot when you step on it, did you have this problem? I don't want to send it back, but I don't want my little kiddos to trip over it, I am hoping a rug pad may help, can you please suggest a solution? Do I send it back, get a pad? I can send you a video. Thank you in advance!
