Yesterday, we painted our bedroom. We prepped the room, held up swatches, picked up two samples, decided on a completely different color entirely (Benjamin Moore Olympic Mountains, FTW!) and then painted the whole room and all the trim. I documented most of the process on my stories and we'll definitely relay everything, including a lot of photos here soon!--but I was surprised how many messages I got not believing that we actually painted the room before the sun went down. Ha! They were sure we had a team. I promise we don't. But while we don't have a team of DIYers or contractors at our disposal, we do have a nanny at our home from 8:30-3:30 Monday through Friday and that lights a fire under us. We HAVE to get our biggest chunk of work done by 3:30--and on top of that, my time is divided up into 3 hour increments since I'm still nursing. With that kind of hard deadline, it's easier to put your head down and listen to all the podcasts (I like a mix of Bachelor ones, Home and DIY, and Reply All!) and just do it! I can't wait to show you the results. It looks so soft, calm, and serene...and HUGE. Here's a tiny sneak peek I snapped with my phone of it still in shambles and before I painted the trim. (I usually paint the trim first, but I needed to trim out the walls before Chris rolled and he had an appointment.) See more of our bedroom plans here!
More fun things this week!
• "Luck" is kind of belittling to how things are actually accomplished.
• One of my resolutions this year is to take better care of my skin--it became impossible to ignore when I got this mirror as a gift--and I'm not kidding when I say, this masque WILL absolutely change your life.
• Brittany's small Master Bathroom reveal was just jaw-dropping. And that photography! Taking notes.
• This photo by @ericolsendesign brought a tear to my eye. One of the best lines from one of my favorite childhood books.
• Cleaning out your house? Ashley wrote an incredibly thoughtful post where you can donate every last thing that goes above and beyond goodwill!
• I freaked out when they announced the Trading Spaces reboot and now I'm freaking out again because it's all the original cast! Frank! Hildie! I can't wait!
• Lastly, I wanted to share my a few of my favorite budget frames! I've rounded up both table and wall frames and most I have or have used in various projects. #6, especially, looks amazingly modern--that thick white frame!--is a nice size and comes in white, too!

Thanks for including my donation post! Also, isn't Adam J. Kurtz the best???
I love the color for your bedroom! It looks calming.
Thanks for the preview of Trading Spaces. Hildie would scare me if it was my house. Who can forget the hay room?
I hope they don't do anything too weird in the reboot! I like to see stuff that actually makes sense!
Trading spaces what?!?!? I’m excited to see what John Giddings and Vern come up with...and the train wrecks that might ensue.
Hi. You need to interview me for you podcast on designers without a degree. I have Oprah to
thank!! It’s a great story, at least I think it is, and it lead me to something I love to do and have been successful with for 25 years!
LOVE your comment about "luck" as that is something I have often thought as well!
Can't wait to see your master bath/bedroom!
For a master bedroom it's a toss up between dark and dreamy or light and airy. We chose light and airy. And i love the vibes, lots of whites and grays. I'm still looking for decor/furniture pieces and you've been a big inspiration! Love your blog!
OMG -- I feel so pathetic right now - I actually got teary watching that Trading Spaces video!! It was like seeing old friends!!
SOOO excited that everyone is back ---- its gonna be soooooo fun!!!
The frame round-up is so timely for me, thank you! I'm creating a small gallery wall to hang up my kids' art above a low bookshelf. So far I am loving those slim-frame Target ones, so clean and modern (and reasonable)!
I would love the Soma Dawn sofa bed! So beautiful and comfy.
Have you shared your favorite podcasts and I somehow missed it? I would love to hear what you recommend.. I only listen to approximately 7 million podcasts.. so I definitely need recommendations. ha! :) The new paint color looks great! I can't wait to see the room come together!
I'll have to do a post!
Yes! Podcasts! I always seem to get stuck in the murder mystery ones and then when they end I'm frantically looking for another. The only way i get through cleaning, laundry and credit-card backups at work... :)
Thank you for sharing our bathroom! It means a lot ☺️ So excited about your master, and I find painting to be the WORST, I’m super impressed that you guys got it done so quickly
I'm looking to have some larger art prints framed. Been looking at Simply Framed and Framebridge. Still expensive, but supposedly much better quality than IKEA. Do you have any recommendations?
We are on the hunt ourselves! I'll keep you posted.
Please do! I can't fathom paying $850 for five frames... but I keep hearing how cheap in quality IKEA frames are (which would be around 1/8 the cost). I'm torn.
Trading Spaces!! I was watching Iron Chef the other day and could not place where I knew one of the judges.....she was the host of Trading Spaces. Thank you! Thank you for finally allowing my brain to rest lol
The bedroom looks awesome! Great color choice!!!
Wasn’t Ashley’s post the best! So happy you shared it. I am also super stoked about the trading spaces reboot!! Xx
Really curious what your favorite podcasts are!
These frames are so nice, I'm thinking about framing some oversized art right now! Thanks for sharing <3
