Casual Friday

Casual Friday: February 9, 2018

February 9, 2018

Chris and I are headed to the cabin this weekend, just the two of us. We're calling it our Valentine's day getaway. A few pieces have arrived for bedrooms and I've never been so excited to make a bed. I came across the bedroom above (via) and it felt a lot like the cabin vibes we're going for. Plus, how amazing is that paint color!? True cozy, cabin vibes. Warm colors. Worn materials. I bought a quilt this week. A quilt! (This one that is 60% off) I'll be sure to share a lot of sneak peeks on my Instagram stories.

Other fun things this week!

• I remember on Monday, looking at my calendar, and thinking I don't feel like I am going to make it to Friday! The week was stacked against me. And yet, here we are. We made it! Time always passes. Things get checked off. And some of the less important things don't. Time has a way of prioritizing things even when it's hard for us to do so. Something I recently did for myself was buy a physical planner (a novel thought!)--I found this Master Plan one at TJMaxx for $8 (although it's definitely worth the $20 price tag)! I have a lot of digital list makers--we're long time Wunderlist users) and digital calendars that all sync up. But nothing puts my mind at ease like physically writing something down. And seeing, at a glance, what the day holds. This specific planner has the month at a glance and weeks broken up with ample space to write more daily tasks, plus an extensive notes section. I really love it.

• Burning this incredibly fresh Lynsing candle to welcome in Spring. We're ready for you! (Plus, prettiest candle ever).

• I love babies, birth stories and nurseries and I'm getting my FILL over at Yellow Brick Home. Did you see Lucy's nursery!? That baby? That camera light?! I'm obsessed.

• Speaking of babies, our friends, who started Baby Blueprint, are celebrating their one year business anniversary! We love our custom rose ultrasound print of Polly and love seeing them in so many of your homes, too. Use the code CLJ15 for 15% off through Saturday.

Me, to a T.

• We received a late Christmas present from one of my sisters, that I can't help but share. A hand made guest log for our cabin, made by @dskidesign, with an illustration inset drawn by my sister @victoriabradleystudio. Talk about an amazing gift, we'll treasure forever.

• Lastly, Thanks for all your wonderful comments this week. I really love hearing from you, whether about projects we've done that you tried, or conversations that break the barrier between blogger and user. We appreciate you chiming in.

Ps. Monday, we're releasing a podcast episode we've been working on for a long time! We interviewed 4 designers (that you definitely know) about how they broke into the industry being self-taught. It's eye-opening and inspiring and I can't wait for you to hear what they had to say. If you aren't subscribed to our podcast, do so here (it's free!) so you won't miss it.

  1. Hi are you adding to your website info on how you did your butcher block countertop? I think it was in one of your videos.
    I need to redo mine

    Thank you.

  2. I recommend Wunderlist as well! I use it for sooooo many things! My favorites are recurring "to do" items for bills and and a running grocery list.

  3. Oh my gosh, I also just bought an analog planner and felt a little like my mom circa 1997, but it's been amazing. It's been helping me meal plan, keep up with different types of to-do lists, and keep track of everywhere I need to take my kids. I'm annoyed with myself that I waited this long.

  4. I was not expecting that in the Me to a T link and cracked up. Yes. I wish I could let go more but I'm definitely trapped in the "if I want it done right I have to do it myself" vortex. Note to self: continue to work on not alienating people when I freak out and take over for them.

Also, coincidence, I had just added a weekly planner to my shopping list. I'll check out your link too!

  5. I,too,HAVE to have a physical planner.I have things in my phone, but I feel so much better seeing it written down,on a calendar.Right there-in front of me.

  6. Love love love that moody green! We actually just painted our bedroom a moody dark green and I’m OBSESSED. (It was Benjamin Moore Essex Green from their historical line) It is so calming and rich and I couldn’t be happier with it. Excited to see what you guys do!

  7. Thank you so much for the baby sonogram discount code! My sister in law is pregnant with her second and this will make for a wonderful gift.

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]

Raise your hand if you panic when your phone's low battery notification turns on? (Just me??) There's nothing worse when I'm out on a fun holiday outing taking video memories of my family, and I see that red light. Or I'm traveling and stuck in the airport on a layover...it gives me anxiety! I've tried […]
