Chris and I are headed home and back to reality today after an extended weekend away to relax and recharge before we start the One Room Challenge tomorrow. (Tomorrow! Come back tomorrow!) But I wanted to drop in really quick today because Color At Home, Young House Love's coloring book is being released today! (Right now, it's under $10!) I got a copy last week, and I've been having so much fun with it over this weekend.
There were a few great surprises in it:
1. The beginning of the book has a lot of valuable color theory exercises and ideas. If you know me, you know color theory is my jam and to incorporate these lessons in a fun way, like filling in a color wheel and then applying that to a worksheet of pillows on the couch--it's genius and a perfect way to warm up.
2. The rooms are familiar. From John and Sherry's living room, or dining room from the 2nd house, to pieces of the show house and maybe even their new kitchen (!!) makes an appearance--it does. And some pages and spaces are blended together like a dream sequence--new rooms put together from pieces of actual rooms.
3. The pages are perforated so if you wanted to color something and pull it out and put it in a frame--you can so easily!
I'm so excited to see how we all tackle the same rooms. How often do we get that chance? To "paint" the same walls or reimagine rooms that are all over Pinterest. You can tag your photos with #YHLcoloringbook to share.
ps. I'm using these markers and these colored pencils.
Your arched window!!!
I'm the dolt that asked you to discuss color theory on your podcast, and for that I'm both thankful and sorry! You did a great job, but it was certainly no easy task. I was on the fence about whether to purchase this book, but, now knowing there's a whole section on color theory and I can practice those theories on these pages, well, now it's a must buy. Thanks for the product review!
Thank you Julia! :)
Hi Julia! I posted a question on instagram, thought I'd try and catch you here. :) Thank you for getting back with me about your laundry room paint color and trim. I was also wanting to know what color your trim is that you used with the Hazy Skies color? What sheen?
Also what is the color and sheen with your Simply White in your media room?
Thank you so much! :)
We just use off-the-shelf designer white trim in semi-gloss and the Simply White downstairs is eggshell with the trim the same as the aforementioned. Hope that helps.
I haven't caught up on that coloring book frenzy yet. But this book, I'll admit, look really nice and mayyy make me take out my coloring pencils out !
