DIY The Easiest Card Holder. Ever.

December 14, 2012
This time of year is the best for mail.  I did nearly all of my Christmas shopping online, so between the packages arriving daily and the real gems, receiving holiday cards from our friends and family, every day feels like Christmas! We haven't shipped out our cards yet--that's my goal this weekend!--but the cards have started trickling in from a few of our loved ones and we had no real way to prominently display them.  If my mind serves me right, last year, we just taped them all to the pantry door in the kitchen.  This year I upped my game--kinda.

Mind. Blown. Am I right? From just looking at the above photo, I feel a little silly doing a little tutorial about how I DIYed these little card holders for pennies a piece, but what the hay--here's the breakdown.

I used standard, cheap-o black binder clips and Krylon spray paint in Brilliant Gold.  I tossed all the binder clips in a cardboard box in the garage (with a door open for ventilation) because I feared it might be too cold to paint outside.

And then, get this, I spray-painted them with the gold spray paint.  Are you keeping up?? ;)

I did a few thin coats on each side and after about an hour, they were fully dry and gold and I was happy.

Because our color scheme this year is mainly gold and blues, they fit in perfectly with the rest of our decor in the living room, which is exactly where I planned on having our cards hang out.  All lined up on the fauxdenza specifically.

I just clipped each card in and the binder clips stand alone.  So, voila! It might be the easiest card holder ever and yet seeing all of our cards standing up on the credenza where we can see them and pick them up and read the backs makes us merry.

How do you display your cards?  My parents have kept cards for years and string them through ribbon that's hung all over the house.  It's crazy.  And magical.

  1. Hey I have been trying to figure out how to display these little cards I have for a bridal shower this weekend, I really didn't want to go buy tiny frames for them all so this is perfect, thankyou!

  2. Not all DIYs have to be extravagant. Sometimes the simpler the better. -In my home, it means it will actually get done! I'm impressed by the simplicity and stunned by the "why didn't I think of that" factor. :) A+ for Julia!
