DIY a Photo Strip without Leaving the House

November 8, 2011
Three years ago today, Chris and I got married.  We pretty much celebrate our marriage every day, but today is extra special.  He did have to work from home this morning, but this afternoon and evening we are hitting the tizown.  Because his birthday was last month, mine is later this month and next month is Christmas--we opted out of getting each other presents this year and decided to just do something together.  Make a memory.  I think it is a tradition that might stick.  First thing we did to remember today--DIY a photo strip:
It was impromptu actually, which is best in our book.
1. We found ourselves all at the dining room table.  Chris was working and I was keeping Greta busy snapping photos in Photo Booth.  Chris stuck his head in some and then Greta retreated and we decided to get a couple shots of just us.

2. I picked my favorite four shots and put them in a column in photoshop.

3. I downloaded a cool free photoshop brush that makes several different kinds of photo strips here:    http://www.coolestbrushes.com/brush/photo-booth-strip
With one click of the brush, I had my photo strip layer over my photos.
4.  Because I lined up all of our heads in the strip, the photo widths were all over the place so I cropped the whole thing the width of the photo strip.
5.  I added a few filters using Pioneer Woman's Photoshop Actions until I liked the look of the photos.  Free photoshop actions downloaded here: http://thepioneerwoman.com/photography/2010/03/actions-update-2/

Done....I think it would make a cute Christmas card, don't you?

  1. YES. IT WOULD MAKE A GREAT CHRISTMAS CARD...HOWEVER, MY HEAD WAS "SWIMMING" WHEN I READ YOUR INSTRUCTIONS. I'M JUST NOT THAT COMPUTER ILLITIRATE.
I TRIED TO CALL YOU LAST NIGHT AND WISH YOU A HAPPY 3RD ANNIVERSARY. I EVIDENTLY DON'T HAVE YOUR LATEST NUMBER AS SOME ONE ELSE ANSWERED. I STILL HAVE YOUR 208 NUMBER. HAVE YOU CHANGED? IF SO WOULD YOU SEND ME YOUR NEW PHONE NUMBER OR JUST CALL ME.
WHAT A SPECIAL WEDDING DAY AND RECEPTION YOU HAD THREE YEARS AGO. SO, GRANDMA AND I HOPE YOU HAVE A SPECIAL DAY TOGETHER AND MAY YOIU HAVE MANY MORE SPECIAL DAYS...YES, MAKE MEMORIES. YOU TWO ARE SPECIAL TO US AND WE LOVE YOU VERY MUCH. WE ARE PROUD OF Y OUR SUCCESS IN LIFE AND SPECIAL RELATLIONSHIP YOU HAVE TOGETHER. MAY THE LORD'S CHOISEST BLESSINGS CONTINUE TO BE WITH YOU "THIS DAY AND ALWAYS"..
    LOVE YA...
    GRANDPA AND GRANDMA MARCUM

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]
