Sorry for my absence over the past week. I had a few posts ready to publish while we were away, but we were, literally, working on the kitchen in Pittsburgh non-stop and I wasn't in a place to answer questions or even hit publish. So, we'll save those for this week! The good news is we got back home yesterday, the kitchen turned out amazingly well and we have a full week of posts! You can see a few sneak peeks of the final kitchen that I posted this weekend over on Instagram--it was hard to leave!
Other good news! It's Monday which means Episode 7 of The Chris Loves Julia Podcast is up and we talk all about creating mood boards--how I go about making them, why I'm hooked on the process, what they are for those that may not know. You can listen to that episode right here on iTunes, here on GooglePlay or here on Stitcher.
See details of the above mood board here and all of my other mood boards here.
Chris also laughs the hardest I've ever heard him laugh (the best sound in the world!) and we challenge you to take a few style quizzes which is hardly a challenge because they are irresistible. Here are a few of my favorites from the show notes:
2. This StyleScope quiz is a simple as choosing five images that make you happy. It told me my style was "Modern Metro" which " enjoys a perfectly edited collection in a more masculine palette of cool greys and deep blacks with the occasional pop of color." Pretty accurate!
3. What's Your Decor Style by MyDomaine is a short 5 question visual quiz where you choose things like what throw would be on your bed to what you eat for breakfast. I always have a green smoothie which I'm pretty sure determined my "California Eclectic" result. But having style like Emily Henderson is never a bad thing!
Can't wait to hear your results and what you thought of this week's podcast. Happy listening!
The Lonny quiz was the most accurate! And to add to everyone else's comment I picked the croissant and coffee and ALSO got California Eclectic. Now I'm wondering if that is the only option generated :)
The best "moodboard" creator that I've used -- that takes no special software skills -- is Olioboard (Olioboard.com). It is FREE and the best. You can use products that they already have in their 'library' or upload your own photos of products/pictures that you want to use. It is super user-friendly and there is no limit to the number of boards that you can create. Sometimes I'll create a "moodboard" or mock-up of a small vignette or detail area in the room I'm working on to see if it "works" -- other times it is the whole room. It also helps immensely when I'm trying to explain to my husband my vision for a specific room -- so that we're on the same page.
Oh my gosh. I loved this episode. Your suggestions for creating mood boards was exactly what I needed. I took all three quizzes and got "rustic romantic," "boho/traveler," and "California eclectic." Each one was dead on, and I certainly see each popping up in my Pinterest inspiration boards. The issue that I'm having is how to weave these different design aesthetics into one cohesive house. I want my turkish rug AND my cozy textiles AND my mid-century chairs AND my forged iron brackets, darnit! We're renovating our first house, so it's fun to have a blank slate to start.
Another awesome resource that I've found has been the emails from Dot & Bo. They'll create design style examples that are a mixture of different aesthetics and then curate pieces that match the style. I've saved a bunch to reference as I search for comparable pieces.
Yep, me too! Blueberry pancakes and still California Eclectic ;)
SAME here ladies!
Ha! Loved this. Btw I chose Blueberry pancakes and I also got California Eclectic!
