You know what I love in a bathroom? Art. Hard pass on punny prints or bathroom reminders (wash your hands!)--but give me all the fine art. For some reason, it's unexpected and it can elevate the (likely) smallest room in your house so quickly. Our entire master bathroom was inspired by a vintage waterscape painting I found on Etsy, but I wanted to share 21 fine art pieces that anyone can snag! I tend to gravitate toward botanicals, figures and waterscapes and skies in the bathroom--mixing traditional and modern pieces. Here are a few favorites:
I'm actually thinking of reworking the gallery wall in our hall bathroom and love the idea of hanging #2 and #5 from the sky and waterscapes side by side. I just love that pairing! Do you have art in your bathroom? I promise it will CHANGE everything.
Love these pieces--especially the sky and waterscapes.
Could you do a round up of fine art pieces for the kitchen?? I am having the hardest time decorating my bare white kitchen walls!
I'd love to!
I love how you mix art!
These are lovely fine art pieces for the bathroom. I love the floral art. Thanks a lot for sharing this post.
I have a small shop on Etsy that I started because I couldn't find photos I liked for my daughter's room that weren't small baby animals, so I did my own! Julia, I was actually inspired to go for it because of your sister amazing paintings!
Love the sky and waterscape picks! Another artist that fits into that category is the talented https://brynnwcasey.com/original-shop/
I almost choked when I read this title because I work at an art museum and our largest donor has an O'Keefe in her master bathroom. We're always DYING of laughter that someone would put fine art so casually in a bathroom.
So when I read "fine art" in the title, I thought, "Oh my goodness! Enough with the priceless masterpieces in bathrooms!" LOL
But, I get it now. Not O'Keefes. Got it. ;)
My favorite piece of art I've put in a bathroom is actually a print you had in your bedroom. The one with the white statue head and the black hand holding the nose. I thought it was appropriate for near the toilet HA!
I love that one!
This is SO incredibly helpful!!!! I LOVE that you added this because I always love the art I see in your home but I am SO lost when it comes to finding my own artwork. This makes it super easy. I know these can be used anywhere but do you have other posts about artwork ideas for other areas in your home? Newer follower over here and just started looking at your blog too-- ya'll are great!
If you search art, a few posts will pop up, but I'll definitely add more to my list!
Crazy question: is it sexist to only have naked/half clothed women pics in bathrooms? What message does this send? Interesting article by Telegraph: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/11599835/Nude-women-painting-Are-nudes-really-necessary-in-art.html
I personally don't think so--the figure is beautiful! (There's plenty of men's nudes, too)
Yes!! Love all your picks. They are much more classy than what I have hanging in my bathroom :D https://society6.com/product/butts-e5e_print?sku=s6-3335536p4a1v45
A good trick I've been using is to print the artwork image on my home printer, even if it's low resolution, and piece together the sheets of paper then tape it to the wall you think you'll want it on. You can use different widths of painter's tape to mimic the frame. I've done this with single pieces or groupings of art and even though it's often printed off the internet, it helps me get a better idea of the energy and balance of the art in a space. Once satisfied with size and frame, I go ahead and purchase the art online to get the beautiful detailing and pay the artist!
That's such a great idea!!
Ive been eyeing #2 in figures for a while!
These are so fun! Pinning all of them!
I searched high and low for art I wanted in our bathroom. I finally settled on this (excuse our realtor's terrible photo when we had our house on the market: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B10AfrhodZqDNFRCYnBFeUpSLVE/view?usp=sharing) and think it's a perfect fit.
I also have this one in our half bath downstairs (https://society6.com/product/bill-murray-replaceface_print) so I must love the quirk. Ha.
I love all of these! Any ideas for art for a dining nook in a kitchen? I struggle with art so much and I don't know why. All the advice about find something that you like is so hard for me. I like art in other people's spaces but I always hate it in my own house. Maybe I am just a minimalist and I have not accepted it yet!
I also wanted to say that since I started reading your blog (or is it a website now?) that I have noticed my decor going a little moodier and I love it! Thanks for all the inspirations!
I love this idea for posts! You do a really great job curating art pieces....I've always thought that! You should do "pieces of art for _________" for each area of a home. I'd love to see kitchens, entries, hallways, kids rooms, guest bedrooms, adult bedrooms, laundry rooms, (I know we all look at the art ledge you have in your living room). It is very difficult for most people to curate anything artistically. I find art very overwhelming but truly love it and want it in my home but curating art is daunting!
Yes! I agree...I love seeing how you (Julia) put art together—it’s so tricky!
I'd love to!!!
Great suggestion! I'd be all over those posts.
Yes, please!! You really have a knack for finding unique prints and artists!
I have number 1 in the figures and just ordered number 4!! (yay for supporting female artists and family ;))
I love the idea of having feminine figure outlines in the bathroom! I'm actually thinking of sketching the images myself with charcoal! Well, tracing lol

Love this! We recently finished our master bath, and I've been mulling around for a while what art to put over our 5' clawfoot tub. It's on the same wall as our two large-scale mirrors, so I feel like I should break it up with a picture ledge so I have the ability to gather a variety of pictures (vs one large pic).
Also, the Library of Congress is a great resource for free-to-use images (many available in large file sizes):
