Giveaway Gold: Time to Dress up!

October 25, 2011
This Giveaway is now Closed.  Congratulations to #20, Christy, our WINNER!
Our laundry room mini-makeover involves more than just walls, mirrors and vanities.  We are adding lots of artwork, cabinetry and even sprucing up our ironing board to match (you'll see all those details in the days to come).  When I stumbled upon Paula's Etsy shop, Compelled to Craft, I knew it was something I wanted to share with all of you.  She has 91 different ironing board covers to choose from.  Ninety. One.  It took me 2 days to decide which one we wanted in our laundry room (Hint: Ours is an Amy Butler fabric. EEEeee!), which means you better start narrowing it down now because Paula is gonna send one of her contemporary covers to a lucky reader as well.

Whether your ironing board is standard size or one of the countertop ones like we have (she can whip up a mini cover in almost any fabric), it's time to dress it up.

The Nitty Gritty--

Prize: An ironing board cover of your choice from Compelled to Craft.

Number of Winners: One

To Enter: While you're busy deciding which fabric you are gonna dress up your ironing board with, we'd also love to hear about YOU dressing up--tis the season, afterall.  Leave a comment with the words "Dress Up" and tell us all about your best or favorite costume. One year, when I was like 8, me and all 4 of my sisters were Chaquita Banana Girls.  The next year, we were all nuns.  I have never seen my grandmother happier.  :)

Details: Prize ships anywhere in the United States. Giveaway closes Friday, October 28th at 9pm MST. One Entry per person.  Winner will be chosen using Random.org and announced right here on Saturday, the 29th.

  1. I too dressed up as a Nun one year. The show "The Flying Nun was all the rage at that time. Could sure use this to brighten up my laundry corner

  2. DRESS UP! Once my sister and I were both princesses. We picked out prom dresses at a good will and a family friend altered them for our little bodies. I even got to wear lipstick! I felt so pretty.

  3. Dress up
I dressed up as a California raisin one year. I also dressed up with two other friends as the three little pigs.

  4. i used to dress up as a pioneer all the time--i was obsessed. i had a real pioneer apron from a thrift store, a bonnet my mom sewed me, lace-up boots, prairie dress...the whole shebang. i was a pioneer 2 or 3 halloweens in a row, and often on other days of the year just because i so desperately loved dressing up like the kirsten american girl doll. these covers are awesome!

  5. Dress up!
Wow those are pretty adorable! Well, I have a Halloween costume decision that I feel somewhat shameful about, I was a pink power ranger....3 YEARS IN A ROW! geeez..

  6. Dress Up! One year when I was around 5 or 6, my mother dressed me and my sister up like California Raisins (the female version) for Halloween....I'm guessing funds must have been rather limited for costumes that year. Anywho, we wore trash bags with black tights, neon socks, and neon sunglasses. She put bright pink lipstick on us, too! What can I say...it was the 80s, haha! I would love a new ironing board cover, but man, oh man is the choice of fabrics gonna be difficult if I win! Thanks for the opportunity!

  7. Ooh, great giveaway; maybe this will help me enjoy ironing a bit more. My older brother and I were Ninja Turtles, nunchucks and all, a few years in a row. And I may or may not have worn the costume on a very regular basis regardless if it was Halloween or not:)

  8. Dress UP! Last year I dressed up as the ice queen from Narnia, or a version of it anyway. This year I dressed up as a zombie prom queen. I always try to wear a costume that I can wear fake lashes with...they are my favorite :)

  9. Actually this year I believe I had the best costume ever. I dressed up as a cupcake and I created my costume by following several tutorials on various blogs. I love it! Thanks for the chance to win!

  10. Dress Up!

Well, I'm currently trying to decide what I want to be for this Halloween, but I can tell you that when I was in 1st grade I wanted to be a "gypsy" so my mom made this adorable little costume out of gold and black fabric - but then we were caught in the infamous "Halloween Blizzard of 1991" and over two feet of snow fell. At once. My mom made me wear a snowsuit, completely ruining my costume (or rather changing it to being a girl-stuck-in-a-blizzard) and I was a pretty bitter little girl...

(tried posting w/ my google ID and it didn't work for some reason...)

  11. Dress Up!

When I was about 10 years old my mom made me and egyptian costume. I felt so glamourous!!! A new ironing board cover has been on my list of things to make forever!!!

  12. Dress up!
My favorite costume ever was a Minnie Mouse costume I sewed for myself when I was 7. I was so proud of it, and it won a prize at my school's Halloween fair.

  13. I am most excited about my costume this year. I am announcing my pregnancy, so I am dressing up as an oven. When you open the door, you will see a bun and a note stating "baking with care, will be ready around June 19, 2012". My husband will dress up as a chef with an apron that reads "The Bun Maker"

  14. We were pumpkin heads one year. Yeah. Out of paper mache. I like dressing up as "rich ladies." But these days when I tell someone that I just get blank stares. Like they've never even HEARD of Rich Ladies before! Sheesh!

  15. Dress up- My favorite costume was when I dressed up like a spy. I was broke, so I bought a blond wig, used a long dark leather trench coat i had, and big sunglasses. It was simple, cheap and effective.

  16. love the giveaway...
my fave dress up costume was and always will be as a kitty cat. :)
As a child & then as an adult.

  17. My favorite thing to dress up as was a clown. I don't like clowns now but I loved having my face covered with face paint :D

    homespunhandmaiden(at)yahoo(dot)com

  18. Dress Up!! Last year I was a rubix cube and my husband was a nerd...we also paired up with another couple one year to be the Wizard of Oz characters (I was the scarecrow and my hubs was the lion).

  19. I loved when I dressed up as a hobo simply because every year before that my mom made me go as a ghost! LOL

I have my grandmothers ironing board (all wooden) and right now it is in desperate need of a new cover. My favorite it the Ironing Board Cover made with Riley Blake Felicity Vines and Flowers in greeny yellow green red pink and blue by Emily Taylor. It would go perfectly with her ironing board.

    Thanks so much!

  20. DRESS UP!!!! Last year I dressed up for Halloween. (The first time in several years!!) I went as Flo the Progressive Insurance commercial. It was a huge hit. Love the covers - can't wait to get one!

  21. DRESS UP!

When I was in college '00-'04 I dressed up as a Trading Spaces person once, with the color button up and put the felt logo on the back .... so easy.

**Sorry for the double post, I forget to put in "Dress Up" ... darn technicalities!

  22. When I was in college '00-'04 I dressed up as a Trading Spaces person once, with the color button up and put the felt logo on the back .... so easy.

  23. Dress Up
One year for Halloween, it had snowed earlier than usual, and I went as Rudolph.

Ironing is one of my least favorite tasks... maybe a new cover would change that?!

  24. My mom always made our costumes. I think my favorite was the tooth fairy...don't ask me why, I was 7! It involved a pink satiny dress with gold trim. It was modeled after one of my favorite books at the time. It is also about the time that my mom started her career as a dental assistant? My mom's best costume of all time was my brother's ninja turtle costume which involved a big stuffed head that velcro'd under his chin. It was amazing. I'm pretty sure she made him wear it 2 years in a row because she put so much work into it!

  25. DRESS UP! Okay so I have a little list.

Kindergarten, I was a Nordstrom's gift box. DO NOT ASK ME WHY.
    3rd grade, A picnic table.
    5th grade, Pippy Long stocking.

And I think that ended my super creative streak. After that I was in middle school./ jr high/ high school and WAY too cool to even THINK about dressing up. Little did I know my 1st born would be born on Halloween!

(ps how do you even CHOOSE just ONE of those covers. They are gorg for sure)

  26. For the majority of my trick-or-treating career, I was dressed up as Wonder Woman. Moon boots, tinfoil bracelets and crown, and a swimsuit over tights. Yup, I looked awesome. ....my ironing board needs to be dressed up too. That poor cover has seen farrrrr better days. :)

  27. Dress Up : I dont think I ever had an epic costume as a child, but I am making up for it as an adult. This past weekend I was a Zombie for a local event and then a green skinned witch for an other one. I love dressing up and hitting the Halloween events.
    krazekatlady at gmail dot com

  28. Dress Up.

My mom always made our costumes, and I think my favorite one would have had to been the year I went trick-or-treating as a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader. My mom sewed my "uniform" and even used the previous year's Christmas tinsel to make my pom-poms because we couldn't find any blue and silver ones.

  29. What a fun giveaway, Julia! When I was 5 years old my mom made me and my 4 brothers turtle costumes-- she dyed over-sized white tee-shirts and tights a bright green olive color and made these turtle shells out of felt that we wore like a backpack. We looked pretty hilarious. My ironing board could definitely use a good "dress up"-- what darling covers!

  30. Dress Up!

My favorite costume was one my mom made for me in Kindergarten or thereabouts - a gorgeous monarch butterfly costume! She also made other great costumes...dinosaurs, dalmatians, Cat in the Hat. She's so creative! I just made my yellow lab a lion's mane of Halloween. It's great, but she is not a fan. :)

  31. My favorite costume was a clown costume that all five of my siblings and I took turns wearing for Halloween. When my parents celebrated their 40th Anniversary, I made them a memory quilt from all sorts of memorable fabrics. I included fabric from that clown costume. :-)

  32. I'll never forget the year I got to wear a REAL store-bought costume! I got to dress up as Wonder Woman - with the plastic face mask that you couldn't see through and that apron-like plastic bag with Wonder Woman's body printed on it! It was stinky (this was WAY before anyone ever mentioned how bad this stuff could be), uncomfortable, and didn't stay on for more that 6 houses. Well, at least I got the chance to see what those fancy store costumes were like!

  33. DRESS UP! When my two best friends and I were about 14 we dressed up as the ghost busters. Our costumes were pretty last minute but you couldn't even tell! We made boxes into backpacks with some plastic straps and borrowed our parents vacuum hoses to create the Ghost buster packs. We went thrift shopping for some jump suits/ auto worker cloths and for a finishing touch we had a speaker in my backpack that played the theme song :)

the year before that I was a "JEN-tile" = gentile... My name is jen... get it? That beauty, was my dads idea.

  34. One year my entire family dressed up as M&M's with mom and dad as the peanut and plain packages
i would love to win this!!

  35. Last year I dressed up as "A Complete Package" and made a dress out of bubble wrap and duck tape! It was so fun and unique!!
    Great giveaway! Thank you!

  36. Dress up.
One year I went as Little Bo Peep and insisted on dragging a flock of stuffed sheep trick or treating...mom was not happy about that one! :) Thanks!

  37. my fav. costume was one halloween i dressed up as my grandmother! i put on one of her wigs, one of her moomoo dresses, her huge bra that we stuffed with plastic grocery bags and i had alot of make up on too that night! if you think back on my grandmother i know you will think this was a supper funny costume! thanks Catrina David

  38. When I was 11 or 12 probably, I dressed up as Bob the tomato from veggie tales, my sister was Laura the carrot and my little brother was Larry the cucumber! :) I hope I win...I desperately need a new cover :-)

  39. Dress up! When I was 8 and my sister was 9, I dressed up as a tiger and my sister was a killer whale (whoa is right). My mom, and her infinite patience, made both of our costumes.

  40. Dress Up. I always wanted a store-bought fairy costume, but usually was a gypsy or hippie or something we could throw together at home. Meh!

  41. Dress Up!

I think my best costume was wonder woman when I was a little girl. My mom bought the most amazing gold bangles and I clicked them together all night and shouted. I AM WONDER WOMAN! It was so awesome. :-)

  42. DRESS UP: Two years ago my husband and I dressed up as mice. He's a Packers fan and has two cheeseheads. I wanted to put them to better use than ugly decor/hatwear, so we wore all gray, made ears and balloon tails, and used the cheeseheads as props.

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]
