It's magic.

October 19, 2011

Magic,  leftover paint from the basement and about 2 hours. Getting the wallpaper border off was pie.  The walls in the laundry room are very textured, which isn't close to ideal to start with, so the paper was already pealing in some places.  I just sprayed it down with water and scraped it off a minute later.  A 30 minute job.  Thank goodness.  Painting this room was actually harder than most rooms.  Constantly shifting the washer and dryer to paint around them was not fun and painting around toilets is definitely not pleasant.  Add super textured walls to the equation and I was ready for a nap after what I thought was gonna be an easy and quick task (instead of a nap, Chris and I prepped the floors in the basement).  Deciding on a light gray was a no-brainer.  This room has no windows and we had leftover paint.  We do have big plans to inject some bold color in this room though--and it has something to do with all those cords hangin' out on the left.

We are going to be hanging a large art installment that will not only serve as a box for those cords but also the color element--I got a pretty good idea of what I'm gonna be doing.  As you can see from the photo above, we have a lot of other plans for this room before our big party next week.  We probably won't have time to redo the floors before next Friday, but I am certain I can improve them.  The other projects are pretty straightforward (we hope) and budget-friendly.  You'll be seeing a lot more of this little laundry room over the next week through all the tweaks.

  1. Ya know, Chris isn't the only one who loves Julia. I do!!! Oh, how I've missed seeing your home-improvement posts. No blogs are allowed in China - I couldn't see yours or post to mine. But now I'm back and ready to blogstalk you once more!

  2. I DON'T have a plan yet. haha. The room has a floor drain in the corner so it slopes a little and I have no clue how to address laying new flooring around that. I've just been Googling around--definitely looking up your suggestion! Thanks!

  3. Paint did a LOT for that little room. I've seen cool things on HGTV about the lamenant tiles that you just stick right on top of old lamenant flooring. I KNOW you know what I'm talking about, but that space isn't too big and I'm sure it isn't too $$ either. But I'm sure you already have a plan up your sleeve.

  4. It's amazing what a coat of paint can do. I can't wait to see the finished project. I'm following, Please check out my blog.

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]
