We finally did it. After 5 months of living in this home and sprucing up spaces, we finally turned some attention to our bedroom. I know I mentioned that our
guest room/office is our next big project, but because the
filming of that project is a little spaced out--we thought we could also give a little love to our bedroom at the same time. Heaven knows it needs it:
New bedding, window treatments, LAMPS, a new ceiling fan (we're pretty sure we are gonna stick with a fan in here, we've used it all summer), art, new nightstands---all things on our to-do list for this room, but we are taking it on item at a time and first to go was those stenciled edges and white paint.
...and the cable cord hanging in the corner that came with the room. We really let it hang there for 5 months.
When choosing a color, we wanted something warm and moody, but still neutral. Martha Stewart's Mushroom was perfect:
It instantly became my new favorite paint color. It's a rich gray-brown (grown?), as opposed to its much younger, lighter brother, greige--it is dark, moody and still real inviting and cozy. We went with a flat finish because the walls in this room were very damaged and had lots of holes in it from previous pictures--we're talking over 40 nail/screw holes. Yeesh! Flat paint is perfect for disguising imperfections and it added a lot to the coziness of the room as well.
So here is how it looks right now:
As opposed to before this weekend:
Lots to do in here, but we're exciting to finally have a little sanctuary in our home. Why have we waited so long to do our bedroom!?
I love the colour!
As far as the layout of the room goes, I noticed you have a door near the bed (a cupboard?). We have our bedroom door in almost the exact same spot and are thinking of getting a headboard with shelves and things for water/books and things, because with a side table there we can't open the door all the way. How are you planning to address that?
