Mood Board: A Moody Blue Mudroom Under $1400

August 16, 2024

Remember those "choose your own adventure" books where you could skip to another chapter with a different outcome? The other day I was looking at our new peel and stick Nova wallpaper, and it hit me — how great would this be in a mudroom!? Ok, obviously mine is in its final stages, but I couldn't help but imagine the possibilities...

That led me down a rabbit hole of designing a mood board that really dives into the moody, modern, traditional feel that the Nova pattern evokes. As I added up all of the products, I realized that you can score this look for an average-size mudroom of 6' by 6' for under $1,400 (even less through August 19 — our wallpaper is on sale for 40% off right now!)

Laying the Foundation

Our Nova Blue Smoke peel-and-stick wallpaper is everything I love in a pattern...it evokes such a mood! Pairing it with our bold, larger-patterned FloorPops draws your eye from the floor to the wall. Plus they're easy to clean. And can you believe the price on this hall tree?! I'd just swap out the hooks and baskets for something more my style (rounded those up below).

Add Anchoring Pieces

Our new turned wood mirror at Pottery Barn feels vintage but also timeless (like the pendant light) and is perfect for checking your outfit before you head out the door. The hooks are oversized (13"!) so they make a big visual impact while adding a lot of functionality. Swapping out hardware on a big box furniture buy makes it look more custom!

Make it Stylish

It's important to add elements of texture, shine, and color to create interest in any room — even a mudroom! The copper umbrella stand (ordering this for our entry!) bounces light around the room, while the runner has a jute texture that adds warmth. The baskets will corral items from the drop zone in the hall tree, and the pillow? Add it to the bench and watch how it transforms the space from utilitarian to styled!

Price Breakdown for a 6' x 6' room:

Wallpaper (7 rolls): $252
FloorPops (4 cases): $84
Hall Tree: $212
Oversized Wall Hooks (4): $158
Pendant Light: $112
CLJ x PBK Turned Wood Mirror: $229
Copper Umbrella Stand: $150
Cane Basket: $58
Matilda Pillow: $28
Judy Natural/Stone Runner: $87

Total: $1,370

Fall Boots (And My Hot Take on Skinny Jeans)

There are two types of boots I'm seeing everywhere this season that create two very different silhouettes for your favorite outfits. One is a very slender boot, often with a pointed toe. Because jeans are getting wider (hello to my new favorite pair), it's great to have a slim boot that you can zip up […]

Halloween Decor Ideas for a Traditional, Spooky Vibe

I tend to go for a traditional, elegant, and spooky approach to Halloween decor rather than a cutesy vibe. I want it to feel like my house is really abandoned!!
