Last night, we went to Home Depot and picked out our new, dreamy door and paint--and a pizza. :) I got on some paint clothes, turned on The Bachelorette and got to painting.
I went with high gloss paint because I LOVE a super glossy front door. I had never used high gloss paint before, but I had painted a lot (have you read this blog?). Long story short: high gloss paint is temperamental. It takes many coats and requires lots of drying time in between coats. And now that I am four coats in, I may just sand it all down and start over because the first two coats--I was a rookie--and it shows. And don't even get me started on the new house numbers we picked up. Or maybe it is our drill that is giving me anxiety. Either way, the brick is still sans numbers. That stubborn brick. Grrr.
Sometimes projects don't go as perfectly as I plan them out in my head. Even I have bad days that make me want to cry hard (and I do) and lose all faith in my abilities and give up on a project. This morning I woke up in a defeated state. I was on the right side of the bed in the wrong frame of mind. Chris picked up on my sad self right away which made me blubber first thing in the morning. He decided to take the day off from work and just be with me and help me out and play with Greta. We have been having a great day filled with shopping trips, kiddie pools, and a bbq planned for tonight--oh yeah, and plenty of high gloss paint.
I'm not sure if you'll see this comment since it's now 2 years later! :) But I just randomly saw this post and have a question about your door. We need a new front door (well all new exterior doors - yikes) and have looked at Home Depot. We're looking at that exact same door style! Can I ask you which brand you went with there, steel or fiberglass, and how it's holding up? We had Pella come quote our doors, too, and it was 3 times what Home Depot quoted! So we're struggling with the decision. Thanks in advance if you do see this and respond.

Kim, Here's a link to the exact door we got: http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/202604166?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053&N=5yc1vZbuhy&R=202604166#.Uc2O7EJakk8
It's steel and a steal! It's holding up wonderfully and we have no complaints.
Thank you!
You are so good. We are slightly lazy. We didn't even take our door off to pant it. Just slapped the paint on. So sorry t hough! It's so frustrating when you've invested hours into something that doesn't turn out the way you hoped!
ugh - i feel your pain! i found a new-to-us, tv stand on craigslist that was exactly what i was looking for. it was raw wood, so the sky was the limit for sprucing it up. i sanded it down, and used some black paint we already had, thinking everything would be perfect. well, the paint was a pain on the headboard i painted with it, but i thought it had to do w/ the finish on the door we used. musta been the paint. the junk peels off like cheap nail polish.
so, i was a blubbery mess last night after we moved the stand upstairs & it hit walls, etc., thus scratching paint off. and, then, when i went to demonstrate something to my husband with a cute vase, i whacked it into the cabinet & it broke. cue the tears again!
it's nice to see other people have decorating mishaps too. ;) keep your chin up - i love the door you picked (looks alot like ours).
Awww hang in there sister, I've had a "down" day too, and a friend just vented to me for 2 hours, she finally left and I felt defeated then I came online and read this, What the World Needs Now, is Love Sweet Love!
oh no - i hate those days when all the plans fall in a heap.
hoping things got betterer!
hugz,
cheryl xox.
LOVE the new door!! sorry about all the anxiety it is causing though...that seems to be how ALL of our projects go!
Oh, but that door? BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ahhhhhh Julia You would die if you were here today. Baby that won't be named. Bad news. No schedule and she knows it, I know it, but her parents don't know it. Um, she isn't going down for naps too easy. "Well, is her binky in? Is she swaddled tight enough? Is that blanket we keep by her face there? Is the room cool and dark enough?"
YOU.
WOULD.
DIIIIIIIIE.
So, I have decided to tell them they either need to forcefully put her on a better routine OR TELL ME TO DO IT, by the end of the summer, or I won't be babysitting for her anymore. I am SO tired of having them run me to the ground of her every need and desire to take naps. Today? The longest nap she took was 40 minutes. Shortest...10. SHOOT ME. I am so exhausted. It is BLOODY hot in our apartment. And it's bloody hot outside so Brin is a monster. ahhhhh
So, give me strength to write a well thought out email and for them to not get offended.
