Chris got me a shmancy camera last week and I am thrilled! I am not a photographer, so this entry level Canon T3 SLR was perfect for my needs. What are my needs? Why the camera if I'm not a "photographer"? Easy, I like taking pictures and I take a lot of pictures. I am taking and uploading photos every day to go along with all of these words I write and stories I tell right here and it seemed to make sense that the projects that we do would best be documented through pictures that do them justice. In fact, I know some of you just scroll through for the pictures anyway. We put a lot of time into the work we do around here and it was time to upgrade to a camera that could better capture that work.
Like I said, I am not a photographer, so choosing a good camera to fit my needs required a little help. Read: There are SO many DSLR out there, my brain was about to explode. Thankfully, my little sister, Andi (who just won a Guru award at Photoshop World!) and my brother-in-law, Brandon, are both awesome photographers who leant me advice on a range of DSLR cameras. Brandon even came over once my camera arrived to give me a run-down on how to work my newest tool--I'm still reading and learning and re-learning every day.
I love that I can shoot wider than I could with our little Bloggie that I have used to take every picture you have seen on our blog previously. For instance, here's a shot of our kitchen with the Bloggie and one with my new Canon camera:
Cha-ching! I am excited to be able to show you more accurately how spaces look in our home. But, that's not all I have been using my camera for. Everyday life is another no-brainer of why I wanted to upgrade. Snapping pictures of our little Greta is definitely more rewarding:
i loooove me a cannon rebel. have fun.
That's wonderful! Joe and I are going camera shopping this weekend (although we're going to end up buying one from Amazon) so we can bring a camera on our honeymoon with us!
Sooooooo jealous! I'm not a photographer either but I take tons of photos of my 11-month old and tons of photos of everything in between and my iphone is not cutting it! Maybe for Christmas... :)
Wow! Your kitchen looks amazing! And to think I was only seeing 1/3 of it. I'm so happy you got a new camera! Having a great cam does wonders for any photo. I'm sad to be stuck with my iPhone. :(
On a separate note, I never got the chance to tell you congrats on the True Value contest. I think it's great you are so involved with all things reno!
Definitely! Congrats yourself. :)
Congrats, Julia! Slr's make a huge difference in picture quality. I just got my first nikon last week too. I wanted one so bad it hurt. The lens is able to capture so much more of the rooms in homes. Plus, it takes awesome pictures of kids. Money well spent in my opinion.
AV is what I have been shooting in and it is working. P always automatically opens the flash for me when I am indoors--not a fan.
I recommend shooting in P mode or Av for awhile!
Here's hoping I can live up to the mark!
I think one mark of a great blog is having quality, well-composed pictures and lots of them! Congrats on the new camera, and good luck with the trial-and-error phase!
that is so exciting!! That is next on my "wants" list. Nice cameras are just... SO NICE! :)
Right?!
Congrats! Have fun with it :)
