The cool thing about blogging is if you don't want your readers to see something (like the laundry piled up in your closet) you just don't take a picture of it. This perk has been used quite frequently when photographing our room and trying to hide our ugly ceiling fan:
It's not that we don't like keeping it real. We definitely do, but that ceiling fan can be quite distracting and sometimes it still snuck in the pictures, eh well:
Last week we posted on our facebook page that we had finally got around to ordering a new ceiling fan. We had it narrowed down to these three options:
We got a $100 Home Depot gift card for Christmas, so the budget and place was narrowed down for us. We ultimately went with a, the
Westinghouse Alloy 42 in. Gun Metal Ceiling Fan. We both loved b, but 30" was a too small for our room. C was nixed for size as well--it was 52", which is better suited for a much larger room. A is 42" which is the perfect size, and although I kind of alway envisioned a white fan, the gun-metal finish looks sophisticated without drawing too much attention to itself.
Honestly, I never wanted to replace our old ceiling fan with a new one. Ceiling fans really aren't my jam in the bedroom. I don't like being cold at night and a chandelier or other contemporary fixture definitely looks better--BUT, after we used the fan every night last summer (even if it was on the lowest setting) I was sold on the idea.
Plus, having a hanging fixture would just compete with our
statement lamps already in place. So, we went with something simple, contemporary and sophisticated.
We were under the impression that the job would be a lot more difficult than it was--after all, they offer installation when you buy the fan. It took Chris and I 25 minutes on Saturday night. And now I feel a lot more comfortable shooting our bedroom:
Although, some window treatments would really do wonders. I am officially on the hunt!
LOVE your fan! Good choice!
looks great!! love the fan you chose. doesn't it feel good to have things start to come together?? if only my own bedroom could start taking shape!
I'm a huge fan of the gun-metal. I always like white, but the gun-metal looks better in your room. It's comin' together!
Oooo, I hear ya. Mine sneak into some pics too (they're white, although we have one salmon pink one - ugh). I wanted to axe them until a really hot week just after we moved in. Because we lack AC (I don't even like AC) the fans were fantastic. Your new one is gorgeous - modern and functional. Hooray for fans.
I never knew that! Great tips, Meagan. We did choose an efficient fan. It is rated to operate at 36 watts at high speed (without lights), which gives it an airflow efficiency rating of 69 CFM/watt. (As a comparison, 36 in. to 48 in. ceiling fans have airflow efficiencies ranging from approximately 71 to 86 CFM/watt at high speed.) But like I said above, we really only use it during the night in the summer.
It looks great!!!! When we finally have our own place, we will be on th hunt for heavy duty ceiling fans because ours here are NOT cutting it. I've also heard they ceiling fans are only to cool you down, not the room. And they use lots of energy, so make sure they are off when you leave the room.
very nice! It's so refreshing to see NEW contemporary fan designs. Love it. Great colour too :)
i love this fan! I have such a hard time picking out ones that i like, but this one is beautiful!
Soo I don't think I've ever commented on your blog before, but I've been loving reading it for awhile now! (somehow I wandered over one day from YHL I think :) )
And I wanted to comment that I really like hearing about someone else choosing/installing ceiling fans! Thanks! We need to update two of ours - they were here when we moved in, and like you I just wanted to change them out for something else - but we definitely used them all last summer. So great. We're even using the one in the living room this winter with the blades turning the opposite way, it keeps the warm air from 'pooling' at the ceiling. You're helping inspire us to get on the look-out for updated fan-nery! :)
haha - i try to hide some of our fans in pics sometimes too bc they need some updating
The fan looks great! I like the finish in the room. I don't think I would have liked white as much.
