The Storm Before the Calm

June 6, 2012
We're in the home stretch to finishing the studio.  Yesterday I dug out my desk from our garage, which may be a simple task to some, but you haven't seen our garage.  Err...the majority of you haven't.  A few neighbors who read this blog may have caught a glimpse of our pile of renovation debris (including drywall, old carpet, old baseboards, molding, insulation--it's all piled up in our garage) when we have to open our garage and fetch something and close it as fast as we can.  The garage is on our to-do list once we wrap up a few loose project ends.

All that to say, I found my desk--but not my stool that went with it.  The more I thought about it, I couldn't remember the last time I did see that stool.  Not at our last apartment.  Not at the one before that. Isn't it weird when things just disappear? I gave myself a $35 budget to find a new one (Chris graciously said he'll throw in an extra $15--ha!). Luckily, after browsing through a couple stores this morning, I found this simple counter height stool at Target for $20 (this is normally where I would link you to it on their website, but I can't locate the exact one.)!

I assembled the stool in 20 minutes and pushed my desk over to the window.  It's my favorite place to draw.  I love the light that pours in and the inspiration that I can get from staring at the mountains that are situated right outside of these windows.  I can't wait to settle in during nap times.

Although right now, there is no settling.  There is no drawing or painting.  I am closing this door to you until I finish the room.  Hang some art and shelves and for heaven's sake--clean up.  The next time you see the studio, it will be reveal time. :) Get excited, friends!

  1. ooh yay I'm loving the arty vibe in here! And I also love that you draw. Just found your blog and I'm so glad I did! We're working on our first home too and the office is going to be our next project. Can't wait to see your studio!!

  2. I am in love with this room! In fact, I may just move in... Ok, that may be a little strange! But really, the studio looks amazing. Can't wait to see the reveal.

  3. Can I just say I love the whole thing? Also, what you did to the floors is so clever. If I suggested something like that my husband would just look at me like I was a crazy person!

  4. Yesssssssss!!! I am pumped to see it all come together. Those desks are so awesome. I wish I had a room to myself to just lock the doors and disappear for a couple hours. I hate having to pull out everything and then put it all away at night after I finish a sewing project.

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]
