We divvy out chores in my household, and honestly, the kids have loved to help from a young age. When Greta was 2 or 3 she started unloading the dishwasher, just because that's what she saw us doing. Now it's Polly's chore to set the table for dinner because our older two girls walk the dog and feed the dog. She started doing this last year as a 5-year-old, and I wanted to get melamine plates so it would be a little more manageable for her. And honestly, now we use melamine dinnerware most of the time! If someone else sets the table, we may use the plates I got last year, but melamine holds up surprisingly well and is easy for little hands to handle. It's also a great for outdoor place settings. Bonus: It also comes in an incredible array of colors and patterns!
