We're VERY close to being finished with our exterior and sharing a bunch of before and after images, but despite being in-progress, we wanted to keep with our tradition of filming an exterior and interior house tour in the fall. (Interior house tour forth-coming!) We were about a week too late filming, because we kept waiting and waiting to see if the last 5% was going to get finished--it didn't. So you'll see our yard just passed its prime. But we love her, just the same. Every evening, Chris and I walk around the house to check on progress and see that there aren't any issues anywhere else, so today we're taking you along.
Spoiler: It doesn't look like this anymore.
You'll see a lot of exterior shots and elements you've never seen before, a lot of in-progress and imperfects and hopefully, a lot of wow moments, too! These are the videos we LOVE to look back on and see where we've been. See the first exterior tour here. And the first tour of this house here!
gorgeous!! I painted mine SW Iron Ore, so I'm partial to #darkandmoody. Sexy pit too!
This video and music totally remind me of Soarin' Over California - but for the Marcum house. LOVE it. That back view - with the huge arched window, new dining room and bedroom terrace? Incredible.
Oh my word! That tour-beautiful! Thank you for that glorious view of everything. Incredible!!!
????
It's a gorgeous exterior reno and I hope you follow it up with a photo tour (full size photos) :-) You took a great opportunity to really enhance the exterior, but I'm mostly just happy for you that all the mold has been removed and your in better health/spirits than previously. We lived in a home with mold and although the expense is hurtful, it was awful living with the migraines and illnesses we had and didn't know why. Your home fits beautifully into your landscape, congrats!
Gorgeous! So fun to watch this come to life. How did you find all the contractors you worked with?
Everything looks amazing! Can you pls tell me about the stone you used? Brand, type, color? Have been looking for stone that looks old & authentic- yours is perfect! Also, where did you find that vintage front door?! Gorgeous..
It is limestone from Creative Mines.
The exterior is amazing! Ya’ll have accomplished so much! It’s so beautiful! I love the videography too! The video is better than any I have seen on hgtv! Love love love it! Each angle and turn of the camera had me engaged and connected! Thank you for sharing this home and this videography art!
Wow wow wow! You guys!! So so good! It makes me so happy to follow along on your journey. This house is becoming such a great home for you all! Love everything! And fun to see Willow at the end!
That was fun. Those garage doors look so good now. I really appreciate how you showed us real life and process. I am always impressed with how well you keep us updated on each part of the process. Your home is beautiful and I can’t wait to see the completed version!!
My personal design opinion is that the exterior color is just too dark - I feel like if the LrV has been like 10 up it would have been just enough but it’s so similar to the roof shingles. I really love it in close ups and certain bright lights. Maybe once the porch floor is done for contrast.
LOOOOVE! What color is the outside?
It's called Graphite
It's gorgeous. I can't love this more - it's just an incredible change.
loved it. So wanted a quick jump on and off of the trampoline as you left the kids play area to the tennis courts ;)
Dreamy to the max!!! I love the pop of contrast and asymmetry of the stone on the one facade ???????????????? Modern Orchard House for the win ????????
It's truly looking so amazing! You guys have come so far!
Love the vibe! It's kind of like all black on black and then a stone afterthought over to the left, though ????. Like a whole body that's tan and an albino arm, ha!
The copper and exterior color are exquisite together... and the stone is a lovely contrast. I do love the dark paint on the lap siding - it feels most effective when used on that surface.
It sort of feels like your front door is literally in a black hole though. Maybe it becomes more evident at night when the gas lights are lit up and the curved door allows interior light to spill out, but in this video your front door was barely discernible. I feel similarly to the exterior treatment of your dining room. At night it's probably breathtaking... but in this video, at this time of day, I feel like that particular color hid some of the features and it didn't get the credit that it deserves.
This is the only thing I would change too. I would have done cedar tongue and groove on the ceiling of the front porch to lighten it up (and to add some wood to make the front door and dining room door more cohesive). That being said, It’s still so, so gorgeous and exactly what I’d like my future home to look like.
It’s very beautiful! What a great job and so much work!
Did you consider environmentally friendly options for lanterns and fire pits before going with gas?
Stunning! I love the stone juxtaposed with the dark siding... and the copper accents - what a dream!
So beautiful! Can't believe how much you all have done. Job WELL DONE!
Looking so good! Didn't you mention something about the exterior being illegal for your neighborhood? I missed the email but really wanted to hear about it!! Also, I noticed in an IG story that around the corner to the left of your arched dining doors there is a gutter that looks like it dumps right on a electrical connection. Maybe something to double check for safety reasons :)
Awe, hi Willow!!!!
The house looks great, thanks for sharing.
The video was too dizzying to watch, too much speeded up, to many turns and turns back. I was wishing for a fade through transition to jump to the right spot, rather than 60% dizzying greenery. I had to fast forward to the house angles.
We actually did that in this video in May! Check it out! The majority asked for an uncut version. Maybe that one would be better for you though!
Lovely! The stone makes so much more sense now... it almost looks like your garage was an old stone workshop that’s been added on to several times over the last 150 years.
The garage is actually my favorite part for exactly this reason!
Pleeeeaaaaaasssssseeeee tell me that you don't keep your trash and recycling bins on the walkway when you have a giant 3 car garage? I don't have a garage at all and work very hard to keep bins out of sight from the front of the house - I dream of a garage, any garage!!!
May you be acquainted with some real problems at some point very soon.
hahahaa
What a weird thing to say. Especially to someone who was obviously making a playful statement, and mostly about themselves.
May you find some compassion.
Trash bins in the garage makes it stink! I'd never keep them in there no matter how big the garage is.
All of the copper fixtures look fantastic against that black, OMG!
A literal DREAM home and property. WOW. I can imagine your daughters will have some beautiful weddings on that property one day. So lovely.
Simply stunning! Out of curiosity, will you be adding screens to your windows?
Most already have them on, but they are on the inside of the windows
Andi did a wonderful job on the video! The house looks amazing. But I kept thinking all this hard work, and how beautiful it turned out, almost ready for a long winter’s nap, and then all the fresh possibilities for landscaping in the spring!
Are you serious?!?
This house and land are absolutely stunning! Can I just come over and sit by the fire with a cup of hot cocoa??? It’s perfectly dreamy!!! I love the barn, garden and tennis court as well! Gorgeous! So much blood, sweat and tears, but Wow! Wow. I’m in love!
Gorgeous!! It has come a long way! I can’t help but wonder how it would look with fayes window and your bathroom window stone covered as well! Major improvement regardless! Love it!
Previously, we had stone scattered throughout the front and it's actually not recommended by designers or architects. So happy with how it came out!
I was curious about this as well, but I think both materials are strong enough stand on their own and complement each other so stinking' well (without having to compete)! It's truly stunning!
Okay. It's amazing, but I cannot wait to see how you decorate/furnish the front porch!
I thought your house was beautiful when you bought it, but it's breathtaking now. The dark color looks like silk, you just want to touch it! The copper lights are gorgeous!!! Willow for the win! Her entrance was the perfect finishing touch! Well done Marcoms!
The lights above the garage doors!!! ????????????
