We Can Be a Bit (Melo)Dramatic

April 24, 2012
Remember how we love entering contests--especially when it comes to contests that help us fix up the house?  Well, we're at it again.  It is no secret that we have been struggling with the exterior of our home.  In fact, not a day goes by that I don't wish I would run into the guy from Yard Crashers at Home Depot.  I'm about to set up a tent there and just hang out until he shows up (actually, that's not a bad idea if this doesn't work).  We entered a contest CertainTeed is having that gives the winning home owner $75,000 to help an exterior makeover.  If you're thinking, "Your yard isn't that bad."  Think again.  We haven't fully disclosed all of the problems that we face out there mostly because the list is ever-growing.  However, we crammed all we could into our 1:30, maximum-length video entry you can watch here.
With the video, which is a yard tour like you've never seen (it's embarrassing, really), we also did a little photo shoot illustrating how our mood has changed regarding our exterior over the past year.  The sequence looks a little something like this:

The top ten entries with the most votes head into the finals where judges will choose the winner.  We'd love if you would vote for us!  You can vote once a day (woot!), but you can watch our entry as much as you want.  Head over and check it out here.

  1. You know what is so funny, Jessie--I never go on a contest hunt. I usually just come across them on Facebook or something. Then I weigh my odds. This is a pretty small contest (meaning not too many people are aware of it...errr, weren't when we entered) with a huge prize so we jumped on it.

  2. I'm voting right when i'm done leaving my comment! Can I just say that you are gorgeous! I seriously love looking at your "photo shoots". You are major photogenic and i'm jealous! Ok #1....I love when you leave comments on my blog. They brighten my day! I feel like we are best of friends without hardly even knowing each other! #2 You are about to get a bunch of requests for advice from me here in the next 6 months once we move into our new place. I'm gonna be buying some of those mood board deals you do! #3- Thank you a million for helping Creed with his logo. I really loved the ideas you came up with. You are SO talented Julie. I wish I was that creative! You are a lifesaver! We all love you over here in the Cardon house! Still dreamin of the day when Chris is going to cook us one of his infamous/amazing meals!

  3. That video was awesome!! Good luck! I sure would have loved to win $75,000 on an exterior remodel! We have been in the process of landscaping our yard the last few months and it is NO fun and especially not fun on the wallet! Ps. How do you come across all these amazing contests?? So fun.

  4. We are quickly learning that. Especially with every new problem we find, I am just seeing dollar signs. And there isn't a "quick fix" for most landscaping things either.

P.s. I love when you do your Home Depot talk. You are so knowledgable!

  5. Hahahahaha you and Chris!!! Hilarious! I kept thinking, dang Jules has a banging bod. Hahaha seriously girl. You were working it in front of the camera! I can't for some reason watch the vid on the iPad, so when ry gets home I'll make sure to check it out.

And FYI, I think ALL yards are a lot of work and usually need lots of help. And landscaping is NOT cheap either! Between the types of stones if you do stepping stones (like flagstaff) or put in a retaining wall. Or new sod all together. PLUS maintaining. And weeds. And fertilizing multiple times a year. And fruit trees are a lot of work to grow and maintain. Man, just reminiscing about my garden department home depot days!!! I had soooo much fun and learned a ton!

  6. What a Fun Video!! Thanks for sharing!
I'm gonna tell my hubby about it, so we can shoot a video and enter too!
I'm pretty sure we need to replace one of our garage walls because of termite damage. Our siding is completely rotten! :/
