Right before we moved, our NamaMat showed up on the doorstep and I could barely wait another second to get it unrolled (so I hope you won't mind seeing it in our last kitchen in this post). If you haven't heard of NamaMat yet (it's from the creative geniuses behind @little_nomad_ ) it's available for sale one Kickstarter right now--and funded in just 7 minutes! They sent us one to try out before it hit Kickstarter (thank you!!!) and well, it's a game changer. It's a functional, squishy mat that also looks like a beautiful vintage, heirloom rug.
It's a dream in the kitchen, laundry room, by a standing desk--anywhere you stand the most. It takes so much pressure of your back and feet--and is easy on the eyes, too. ;) Chris squished back and forth on it, making everyone breakfast. My mom (our nanny) "borrowed" it later to slip into our laundry room and graciously fold our laundry with a comfy mat under her feet. (Already ordered her a smaller one in Sand for her laundry room!)
(We're already taking turns rolling ours out in every room of our new house. (Standing on it to break down boxes makes the task so much more bearable) So it's probably time to get a second ????.)
Does it feel like a rug or does it feel more plastic-y?
It's more of a mat material
What happens to the rug if it is to old or not in style anymore? Is it recycable?
Haha, this is funny timing because we recently decided to replace one of our well-used squishy mats, and it made me think of all the home bloggers and their pretty vintage fabric rugs in the kitchen. Like, I love the look but I need my squishy comfort! Definitely ordering one of these instead of the plain black one from Walmart!
I've used other cushioned mats and tried hiding them with rugs - that works most of the time, but it can be very slippery and dangerous. I've joined the kickstarter project and ordered one for my kitchen. It's funny that they suggest that standing on one is like standing on a bunch of gummy bears.
If you have joint issues, padded mats are great. I have them in front of sinks, in the laundry room, and even by my bed so I can start the day off with happy knees & feet.
I’ll have to check into these—I’ve had multiple back surgeries, joint replacements and other bone related problems. There’s few things worse than standing on a concrete slab—I’m going to miss our basement when we move to AZ.
This sounds like a dream for our feet!
I am sold! Thanks Julia
