We've been keeping a secret...

November 5, 2010

We have been redoing our living room...and it's all done!  :)  After we sold our sectional, our place was bare.  The dining room moved back over to the middle section where it belongs and that far space was unusable.  When we had guests over, we sat at the dining room table.  When we wanted to watch TV, we had to go to our bedroom.  As soon as we decided to officially walk away from that house, I broke down and begged for a couch.

It didn't take that much begging.  Chris and I both headed to RC Willey.  Now that we weren't in need of all of those appliances we bought with our gift card--we decided to invest it into our current living room.  We originally were going to go the sectional route again, since we were so in love with our last sectional--but the one we liked, didn't fit.  So we stepped out of our comfort zone and landed some furniture that we love.  Grand tour, anyone?
We went with a couch and two chairs, which seemed extremely mature to us.  Oh, we're so grown-up and buying furniture.  The chairs, couch and muted zebra-print rug are all courtesy of our gift card.  Score!
Does that lamp look familiar? :)  It sits on a grayish-brown table we found at Ikea.  Those curtains are also new.  We have matching ones in our dining area (refer to first picture) and since the rooms are really one BIG space, I thought I'd better keep it unified.
That cute little pillow on the chair is also from Ikea (It was $2.99!!)  The painting is an original I did a few months ago, but I mounted it on a piece of white foam core to give it a framed look on the cheap...like $7 cheap!!

Here's the view from across those chairs at our cozy couch.  The throw pillows we had from our old couch.  They were solid, boring brown. We bought pillow covers at Ikea and voila!  Updated!  Don't forget to admire those frames and lighting Chris mounted for me.
One is a picture of me holding Greta's chubby little legs.  The middle one is Chris playing the piano and me cuddling up next to him, and the last one is an action shot of Chris playing his Djembe.

We feel at home now.  We love the new furniture and new vibe and that we actually have a place to SIT now.  So now that the secret is out, don't be a stranger.

My Storage Hack for Organizing Christmas Decorations

Every year when I pack up the decorations after Christmas, I collect all of the garlands together in one box, I get all the candlesticks together in another box, and all my nativity sets go into their own box. We label the boxes "garlands," "candles," "nativity sets,"...which seems great until you remember that you have […]

Cranberry-Glazed Ham

What do you make for Christmas dinner? Sometimes we'll do a prime rib or a roast turkey, but this year, I'm going all out with a Christmas ham that just looks festive. For this recipe, I made a cranberry-orange glaze with some warm winter spices that takes this ham to the next level. Oh and […]

Raise your hand if you panic when your phone's low battery notification turns on? (Just me??) There's nothing worse when I'm out on a fun holiday outing taking video memories of my family, and I see that red light. Or I'm traveling and stuck in the airport on a layover...it gives me anxiety! I've tried […]
