Servings 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 bag cranberries (put them in a strainer, rinse them, and pick out any mushy berries or stems)
  • zest 1 orange (approx a Tbsp)
  • 1 3-inch piece of ginger, peeled, sliced into pieces about 1/4 inch thick
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 12 oz fresh orange juice (or you can use a store-bought juice not from concentrate, like Simply Orange brand)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, chopped
  • pinch nutmeg

Instructions

  • Put everything in a saucepan over medium-low heat and simmer for about an hour. If the liquid reduces too much, add a little water.
  • Remove the ginger and cinnamon sticks, and mash the mixture all together with a fork or potato masher, popping any berries that may not have popped yet. Give it a taste and add more sugar if needed.
  • Store it in the fridge at least overnight and serve. Makes one quart of sauce.
