This morning Greta and I had to get out of the house. Every once in awhile, I get a bad case of uninspiring cabin fever that forces me to get dressed and get out and get the creative juices flowing.
We went to a few shops and ultimately landed in JoAnn fabrics. The goal: get inspired. I went through all the aisles not really knowing what I was looking for. I found myself wishing their prints were larger and less busy over and over again. And then, just when I was nearly over the whole thing and doomed to another day of nothingness, I happened upon a selection of velveteens deeply discounted. They had a dark, moody, green-blue that really spoke to me. I didn't have any measurements or coupons (I never buy at JoAnns without a coupon) and Greta was getting cranky, so I left it behind with every intention of finding a use for it and going BACK to get it.
I put Greta down for a nap and measured a few things out in our bedroom. My first thought was curtains, but that might get a little heavy looking. Then I thought--Oooo! Headboard! Our current headboard is black leather and is in really good condition--but are we black-leather-headboard-people? I don't know:
The bed is cherry and definitely not our favorite wood color (it may get a paint job during the bedroom revamp), but we chose this bed right after we got married and we didn't know any better. I decided I would get 2 1/2 yards of the fabric and we like it for the headboard--great. If not, I can use it elsewhere.
So I did. For 2.5 yards, my total was $10.60. Which breaks down to $4.24 a yard. Niiiccceee. I love it, and Greta thinks it is the softest thing ever:
Unfortunately, against the cherry wood, it reads more green, than turquoise--which isn't what we're going for. So--to paint the bed? To nix the fabric? Here's hoping we can work it in!
That is some niice fabric. Paint it paint it!
Oh you should totally paint the bed! That fabric is too pretty to pass up. Our bed is cherry too. And I am super sick of it. Here's to waiting see what you come up with! I have a bad case of bedroom blues and need some ideas. :)
Love the idea about using it for pillows! If your bed is white, what color do you WISH it was? We are leaning toward white, but I don't want to regret it.
I'm team paint-the-bed. That's probably because I want to paint my bed one day (it's like a creamy white but we're already bored with it). If nothing else, you can always use that fabric for large pillows to put on the bed.
I love it! Great find!
Funny, indeed! Great minds think alike. I would love to see pictures!!
I painted my bedroom the same color a few weeks ago! I have the same accent color as your fabric. Too funny! I started having some bright yellows in the attached bathroom that I've been bringing into the room as well.
We definitely have our hearts set on some fresh, white bedding to add some light to the room. I would love for the velvet to work on the headboard--but we shall see. The cherry bed frame, brownish gray walls and turquoise are NOT jiving as they are.
You surprise me ALL THE TIME. Right when I think I have you and your design taste figured out....you go and buy turquoise velvet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my oh my oh my....I can't WAIT to see what you do with it! It is a gorgeous color and oh my against those grey walls??? soooo beautiful! and cozy for a bedroom. I agree that as drapes, waaaay to heavy.
I tooootally want a white bedroom set and keep it nice and light and cozy. But right now, a white bedroom set against nasty apartment beige walls??? EEEKKK!
