Our mudroom is easily one of the hardest-working spaces in this house. Looking back at the “before,” it’s actually wild to think we didn’t have this landing spot—we even added a whole new entrance to the house to make it happen! (See the full renovation!)
We designed this room to be the ultimate workhorse: packed with utility, drenched in moody tones, and finished with the classic, modern traditional details we love. But while we’ve shown the “pretty” side plenty of times, we haven’t really opened the doors to show you the storage side of it.

Now we’re going “behind-the-scenes” of the built-ins to show you how we’re actually living in it. (Wait until you see the sunglasses drawer—it’s a total game-changer.)
Kid-Friendly Lockers

While the girls have lockers upstairs near their homework station, having a secondary “drop zone” right by the door is non-negotiable for our sanity. Jackets, backpacks, and all those extracurricular accessories finally have a home. It keeps the hallway clear and our mornings so much smoother.

I have these glass jars in multiple sizes and have used them over and over again.
shop nowPet supplies used to be scattered across the kitchen counters, but giving Cricket her own dedicated spot for leashes and treats feels so much more intentional. Pro tip: Always, always add outlets to your built-ins. We used the extra shelf here to create a hidden charging station for phones and tablets, and it’s the best decision we ever made.
Pool Towel Storage

Our pool towels used to live in the upstairs laundry room, which, by my math, was approximately 237 steps away from the actual pool. We utilized the tall upper shelving above the lockers to house them instead. Now, grabbing a towel on the way out the door is effortless.
Household Supplies Storage

Large Acrylic Bin | Small Acrylic Bin | Woven Basket
The upper cabinets are filled with bins for the “un-pretty” essentials—think bug spray, pool filters, and bulk paper towels. Directly below, we kept it open with a comfy bench and oversized wooden hooks for the coats we’re grabbing daily. It’s that balance of hidden storage and easy access.
Sunglasses Drawer

We tucked small pull-out drawers into the cabinetry to contain those random accessories that usually end up in a pile on the counter. We used inexpensive inserts to keep our sunglasses lined up and scratch-free. It’s a small detail that feels like a total luxury every time I head to the car.
Shoes Drawer

Previously, the girls kept all their shoes in their bedroom closets. Since they’re all upstairs, it led to a lot of back-and-forth (and a lot of bare feet at the front door!) during the morning rush. We dedicated these deeper bottom drawers to their daily shoes. Efficiency? 10/10.

That’s the tour! It’s not just about the cabinetry; it’s about making the house work for the people inside of it. Do you have a “drop zone” in your house? Any organization pain points you’re trying to solve? Drop them in the comments!
Your mudroom cabinetry is beautiful and your organization ideas are definitely game changers. Excellent!
Paper towels from Costco come in a 12 pack …where do you keep the rest ?
How do the kids reach the pools towels?
The shoes drawer has no slides …must be difficult to pull out
Hmm
Yes! The after school backpack drop, etc. is something I’d love to streamline. I currently ask kids to put their stuff in their bedroom, but it doesn’t always get done as quickly as I’d like and often leaders to a lot of unnecessary shuffling of items back and forth every morning!
