Over the holiday, Chris's brother and his family stayed with us for a week and it felt so good hosting family. Their 4 children almost perfectly align in age to our 3 girls, plus they have a little baby--which I held as much as I could while they were here! On New Year's eve, everyone anonymously wrote down something they wanted to focus on in 2022 and dropped it in a bowl. We read each one and everyone had to guess who said what. Mine? No one guessed it was me.
I said, "I want to have fun every day." And so far, a week in, I'm nailing it. I'm making it a point to laugh and make time for the things that are fun to me...even if they aren't fun to others. Fun for me is waking up early. Getting my heart rate up. Don't rush over eating. Finding quiet moments for creativity. Getting on the go cart when the girls think I never would! A two-player game with Chris after girls go to bed. Watching a show without also doing work. Listening to music while I clean the kitchen instead of putting my head down and just getting it done. It's finding the joy in the things I'm doing. I'm not rushing this year. I'm not letting things get to me this year. I'm having a really great time doing the most ordinary things and I can't wait.
What are you focusing on this year?

I got the denim/spice rug mostly because of the mega-sale and not so much because I needed a new rug but it completely changed the look of my home office and I love it so much!!!
This is exactly what I needed to hear. I'm going to use this as my inspiration for this year as well. I was washing mud off a play mat yesterday in the cold and my 2 year old ran on top of it to play in the puddles and soap and I got in with her, (to the surprise her and my husband) and it was just so much FUN. Cheers to finding time for the fun in 2022. Thank you Julia!
Unexpected and wonderful! I once read something that stuck with me along the lines of, women in their 30s tend to get really serious and forget to have fun because life is so packed with kids, work, responsibilities in this season of life. I know I do. I'm trying to have more fun too!
I have very similar feelings heading into this year! And similarly, of all my kids' gifts, a set of Jacks was a huge hit. Even the grandmas got in on the game!
Play Nine has been a family favorite for many years. And fun for all ages, as long as they know their numbers!
I love this question and your answer. In December, I came to the realization that I was experiencing depression for the very first time in my life (wonder why?). Not a very deep one, but enough that I was not feeling myself. So, my goal is not very far from yours - determine what will give me a sense of peace, that is within my control, and take the necessary steps to make it happen! Starting with little things like turning off the news, and tossing my black mask for one with bright colors or a fun quote. On that note, I must say that following your blog/instagram pages and reading comments from your wonderful (and very passionate) followers is one of the "small" things that bring me joy. Thank you for fostering an online community that is respectful of one another and fun!
Good for you!! I love this. I'm going to have to try it out for myself.
I love that sweatshirt too - I have three of them!
I agree with you, we should all enjoy "our" moments!! Happy New Year!
