First I primed the canvas with chalk and erased it lightly, leaving the surface with a good chalky look. I have been using semi-permanent chalk for the commissioned work and I love it. Â It doesn’t erase without a good wet scrubbing, which means it ships well (whew!) and it is easy to put the drawings in a frame without worrying about smudging. Â I used the same chalk marker for this drawing of our house and decided to put it in the frame where my DIY-Rothko was.
The next time we’re up by Ikea, I’ll most likely pick up a different frame. Â Maybe a white one to coordinate with the family tree gallery wall over the couch. Â But other than that, I’m calling this duo a wrap.
Do you have a drawing or painting of your casa on display? Â I painted my parents’ homes for them one year for Christmas, but this simple chalkboard drawing just felt more “us.”
Psst. Interested in commissioning something similar? Â Or another piece of art? Â Shoot me an email at julia@chrislovesjulia.com and let’s chat.
