I feel like I've been wearing the same lip colors for years! Someone once told me that if pull down your lip, that color is a good direction for color that will look good with your skin tone. When selecting lip colors, I tend to choose one pretty close to my skin tone — or I'll go to the pinker or berry side.
If you know me, you know I have a Burt's Bees Pomegranate Lip Balm in my back pocket. It's a very lightly tinted chapstick. I always at least have that on my lips.
This one I just got is the new Merit Signature Lipstick (Matte) in Classic. It's warmer than I normally wear, but I really like it. The matte application feels very "everyday." I do usually go just outside of my lip line when applying to make my lips look fuller. I think this one is going to become one of my favorite lip colors.
I have a Maybelline Super Stay Ink Crayon Lipstick in Lead the Way that's been my go-to for years now. It's really long-lasting and doesn't smudge. Sometimes I'll wear it as lipstick, and sometimes I'll just line my lips with it and add my chapstick in.
Last year, I went with my sister to the Eras tour and we loved belting out songs all decked out in our best glam outfits. For Christmas, I had to get her Taylor's signature red lip (a little tricky to track down these days!), so I included my personal go-to red as a nod to The Eras Tour film launching on Disney+. (Hi, it's me rewatching this numerous times!)
I've rounded up all of my lipstick recommendations below, so hopefully you'll find something fun to try! Let me know your favorite lip colors so I can get some new ideas.
Hi Julia. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease about 13 years ago and I would urge you to look into the ingredients of any lip products you use as many do contain gluten ingredients (wheat, barley, or rye) and can "gluten" you. I understand that you too were recently diagnosed and there's a lot to learn about what beauty products are safe for us Celiacs to use (it's overwhelming, honestly). I use one certified gluten-free cosmetics company for the majority of my makeup products (especially lipsticks and glosses) and have for many years. It's a small family-owned business in Texas. I won't include the name here but you can Google it. But I also use NARS for non-lip products (they contain other ingredients I have to avoid). Wishing you well on your new Celiac journey.
I love a tinted chapstick, but the Burts Bees one did not work for me. Whenever I put it on my lips, I was reaching for it to re-apply every (what felt like) 5 minutes. I felt like they make it so you get HOOKED on it. That’s fine every hour or so, but every 10-15 minutes doesn’t work for me. Do you not have that issue with it?
I usually like a bright lip. My go-to lipsticks are both from MAC -- Ruby Woo & Flat Out Fabulous.
My sis turned me on to Ruby Woo. It's a red that looks good on everyone!
