Back in June, we flew to Des Moines, IA on two separate occasions for 5 days at a time to film a fun online DIY series with Better Homes & Gardens called Win the Weekend. The series shows easy projects you can tackle in just two days to make over a bedroom, living room, basement and kitchen!
You can watch each of the four episodes (all under 5 minutes!) by clicking the corresponding image above or you can watch them (and get a break down of all the DIYs in the episodes) right here!
We shot the whole thing in real houses and the crew at BHG was so, so fun. There were a lot of things that pushed us out of our comfort zone--a hair, make-up and wardrobe crew, memorizing lines and performing in front of a couple dozen people, including the people from GM who were sponsoring it all--but when we were actually doing the projects, we were in our comfort zone and had the best time.
Our own TV show doesn't appeal to us, but these kinds of small, DIY-focused projects--we're all about. Hope you enjoy the series!
Did you end up putting the microwave somewhere else? My microwave is above my range and I don’t love it...But we like having a microwave...I’ve actually been trying to come up with a solution...so if you thought of some great idea, I’d love to know!
In the pantry! :)
These were cute and made me laugh since it was so scripted... I think it's funny how BHG actually switched up everything for the feature images though. Like the completely different sofa, different bedding and they even swapped out the range in the kitchen image. did the homeowners get to live with those new updates? You two did a nice job on these.
The homeowner does get to live with the updates but the header images were taken after we left, so I'm not sure if they got new stuff or if bhg brought it in.
Thanks for sharing! As I watched, I was wondering- Were you in someone’s actual home, or was this a set? And how much input did you have on the designs? It seemed like some choices were out of character for you (ie subway tile laid on top of the 3” countertop backsplash).
We didn't have any input on the designs, unfortunately. I think they tried to implement some of our style but we didn't have input on what it would be.
Hi C&J... I have a ? regarding your bathroom plumbing. As a contractor (I'm under the assumption a permit was needed & pulled for your basement bathroom) how in the world did your city inspector pass that plumbing? I'm a bit behind on your blog reading but glad y'all were guided to a solution : )
Yes! And I have no idea. I will say it was probably at a very slight incline because it flushed okay for the first few months.
Loved all the makeovers..... You two are so darned cute together!!!
Loved all of these! Am I the only one that kept thinking "I hope they cancelled those credit cards" every time they did the close up of you paying?!
Haha, those were all fake for that purpose.
I love the idea of swapping the microwave for a built in range hood! What is the range hood that you used in the project? Thanks!
It was just a generic brand range hood from the hardware store. Can't remember what the name was, but it was meant for mounting above a range, attached to the underside of a cabinet.
I noticed that your t shirt shop on amazon is closed down, and none of the shirts are listed anymore . Did you guys decide that was something that wasn’t working too well or not worth it?
We weren't happy with the quality, sizing, or shipping option Amazon provided, so we have been working hard over the past 2 months, finding a new distributor, with better quality shirts, expansive sizing and shipping to outside of the US. I'm so excited to say we'll be relaunching in the next week! (With a few new shirts, too!!)
