It’s hard for us to believe it has been 6 months since we moved into this home–our very first.  April 2nd we moved in and we have been busy ever since.  In the past 6 months:

–We have painted 9 rooms (Family room, Dining room, Kitchen (and cabinets), Living room, Hallway, Hall Bath, Greta’s room, Our room, Guest room) and one door.  I am planning on adding two more to that list in the next week.

–With all of that painting, we have accumulated a lot of paint.  (1) 5 gallon container.  8 gallon containers.  5 quarts and 7 samples of paint.  (Yeesh!)

–I have written 135 posts (including this one) and Chris has written 3 for a total of 138 posts in the last 6 months.

–We have hung and took down a lot of art and photos in the last few months, but today we have 34 pieces of art hanging.  26 are originals done by me.

—-We have nailed down a color scheme that we love.  Neutral grays and blues, purples and greens are trickling through every room in our home:

–We have had countless (meaning I don’t keep a detailed record) dinner parties and game nights with friends, family and neighbors.  Which is one of our favorite things about owning a home–we love entertaining!!

–Greta has grown up. SO. much. in 6 months.  It’s crazy. (Photos taken in April and September respectively)

This house is really feeling like home now.  However, the last 6 months have not been without rough spots.  I remember the very first night we moved in, Chris was gone at meetings and Greta was asleep and I was in the kitchen unloading boxes.  The pantry and cabinets were filthy and I was overwhelmed by the amount of work that I was facing.  Then and moments after, I have definitely had the thought, “What have we gotten ourselves into.”  But time and time again, I am so pleasantly surprised by the joy that comes with putting time and effort into your home.  Chris and I have grown closer as we work together late into the night.
There are still plenty of spaces that remain untouched, but we are in no rush.  My one-project-a-day is plenty and has worked well for all of us.  I wonder what the next 6 months will bring…

  1. I hope when we get to our 6-month mark we have made as much progress as you guys! We moved in April 1st of this year but we’ve still got a ways to go!

  2. Your house has gone through some pretty great transformations!!! I love Greta’s transformation as well. :)

  3. Awesome post!!! and ya….I can’t believe it has been 6 months. Referring to your house, and also to other events taken place right around the big purchase! I can’t believe it. It is amazing how fast time flies, even when it doesn’t seem like it is. I love your color scheme and your eye for design. So talented. Most ppl don’t even finish JUST painting in those first 6 months of being in a home and look at all that you’ve done!!!! It truly is amazing!!!!
