Staging the Office as a Bedroom!

May 9, 2019

This post is sponsored by Walmart

After our announcement Monday that we'll be selling our home and moving, we have been busy getting it prepped for listing this upcoming Monday. Fortunately, we have no major projects on our list, but hundreds of little projects. Paint touch ups, deep cleaning, de cluttering! The only room that we wanted to put a little extra effort into was our home office. It's actually the 5th bedroom of our home and although lots of people love home offices, we actually have a small den upstairs (the dark green room with shelves--you know the one) and were only utilizing this space as an office because it was a little more private. So we felt the best move was to disassemble our built in desk and stage another bedroom in here.

We didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I mostly used things we already had plus a few special pieces from Drew Barrymore's new Flower Home Collection at Walmart. It's really stylish and boho and affordable! Plus, as always, there's free shipping on orders over $35!

The line is full of decor, bed and bath, some really cute pet beds and bowls, wall art, lighting! Here are a few favorites from the line. Drew! You killed it.

1. Asymmetrical Mirror $79
2. 86" Velvet Track Arm Sofa $899
3. Rattan Arch Floor Lamp $120
4. Euro Shams $18
5. Vase $22
6. Velvet Tassel Pillow (lots more colors!) $34
7. Rattan Pendant $72
8. Leaner Mirror $199
9. 3 piece Glass Bath Accessories $24

I ordered 1, 6 , and 7 for this space (although the mirror got delayed after I included it in this post), along with some fresh beige diamond patterned sheets (so cute and ridiculously affordable), a faux marble side table and a bedside task lamp. Everything else we had on hand.

The velvet tassel pillow is super soft and the perfect size at 20x20. The feather filling gives it a weight that feels a lot more expensive than $34.

Basket lighting is a big trend right now and it's difficult to find anything under $200, so I was shocked to see this Rattan pendant come in at $72! It adds such a beautiful, warm texture to the room--I kind of wish it existed a few months ago so we could enjoy it in our office space!

All in all, we put the room together in under 2 hours and under $2oo. Worth it to show a 5th bedroom, for sure. The only regret I have about the staging--why in the world didn't I think to stage a boy's room!! Haha, I guess I have girls on the mind always (but here's a fun boy/gender neutral mood board I shared a couple weeks ago!)

Shop the other great pieces from Walmart in the post below!

P.S. Thank you for your patience this week as we bustle around!

  1. Hi! Am I imagining things or did you not shorten the cord to the pendant light, and if you did, is there a tutorial on how to do that? Maybe I saw that on Instagram? Thank you!

  2. Everytime I see this room, I am reminded how much I love the moulding details. I definitely want to some in our new home. I am also saving that basket light for later!

  3. Love this transition! It looks very gender neutral to me. Good for a kid or an extra guest room. I love the cloud print. I'm thinking of using it for inspiration for our bedroom. (To go dark, or light! I can't decide!)

  4. What did you do with the closet? If I remember correctly it didn’t have doors on it anymore.

  5. This looks quite gender neutral to me. It's sophisticated and makes me think of a guest room rather than a girl's room. Good luck with the sale! Your home is beautiful! Can't wait to see the new one!

My Formula for When to Paint the Ceilings a Color and When Not To

Here's something you don't need me to tell you, but I'm telling you anyway: You get to choose whether you want to paint your ceiling or not! But, still, almost daily, I get asked "Why don't you paint that ceiling the color of the walls?" If you've never tried painting a ceiling and you're considering […]

Thai-Inspired Basil Beef Stir Fry

I'm back at it today with the Asian-inspired flavors. I always seem to lean that way in my recipes, but why would I use less flavor when I can fill my kitchen with the scent of ginger, garlic, and chilies?! Thai Basil Beef is one of my all-time favorite things to order for takeout. What […]

7 Things You Probably Shouldn't Have in Your House—If You're a Perfectionist

While I don't consider myself a perfectionist, I do like things neat—most of the time. It's important to me that my home is beautiful and lived in. I want it filled with laughter, joy, and life. If that means a few nicks and spills? That's fine with me. Even so, over the years of home […]
