Our Thanksgiving Table, Tradition and $500 to Arhaus!

November 7, 2017

This post is sponsored by Arhaus. We're giving away $500 to one lucky reader at the bottom of this post!

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. CONGRATS TO OUR WINNER, FELICITY!

Do you have any special Thanksgiving traditions? Besides turkey and saying what you're grateful for? In our silly house of 5 girls growing up, after every Thanksgiving dinner, we'd have a talent show. I have no idea why. We're not particularly talented in normal talent show things, like playing an instrument. I remember years where my sister, Victoria, would recite a monologue (she was maybe 11), or we'd put on a ballet--none of us are even close to ballerinas! My oldest sister, Krissy, did a fan dance to The Sage of Lamberene - by Sam Cardon and Kurt Bestor (haha!!) It was humorous and silly and memorable and fun. The tradition has stuck and we still sneakily incorporate the idea into even the prettiest of table scapes to surprise unsuspecting guests with a show after dinner. Here's our Thanksgiving table this year!

I love the wood tones, mixed with grays, creams, golds, blue and off-whites with the striking black flatware (all from Arhaus!) framing each plate. It feels like our home in a place setting.

Arhaus is a great source for unique, high quality, well designed home furniture and decor. It's designed to work as hard as it plays. Many pieces include functional elements like hidden table leaves, washable slipcovers, and construction made to last for generations. You better believe those candlesticks will be passed down.

Although there are definitely fancier pieces, we strive for our home to feel casual and approachable and our dinner parties are no different. For name cards, we're using a fresh, ripe pear, with a name banner taped around the stem.

I wrote everyone's name with a metallic marker and each tag has a different matching autumn emblem with someone else at the table. So there are two leaves, two pumpkins, two turkeys and two feathers. Not only is it festive and pretty, but this is a great way to partner people up for an activity, game, cleaning assignment, or yes, talent show after dinner!

Flatware | Table Runner | 6" Ivory Candle | Vase | Grey Bowls with Pearl Trim | Napkins | Small Candlestick Holder | Medium Candlestick Holder | Large Candlestick Holder | Pillar Candle Holder | 12" Ivory Candles | Glasses | Black Metal Rafa Bowl | Marble Tray | White Serving Bowl | Dinner Plates

I linked all the sources for what we used in the links above, but to see more of what we were considering (and love!) from Arhaus, you can check out this pinterest board or click through the mood board below!

  1. So much to choose from but in l-o-v-e with those candlesticks or that elevated bread board! Both pieces add great dimension ;-)

  2. Can we please talk about the massa kitchen table!?? In addition to making a great early Christmas gift (to me), winning this beauty would be the push we need to finally tackle some banquette seating in our dining room. Fingers crossed (while audreaming about that table)! Thanks!

  3. Can we please talk about that massa kitchen table!? Not only would it feel like Christmas had come early if I won, this table would be the push I need to finally spring for built-in banquette seating to go with those amazing brass legs. Fingers crossed!

  4. I love the bookcases, especially the Chorus Theory Cabinet With Glass Doors. I would love to fill it with special treasures and carvings by my father.

  5. Our master bedroom is desperate for new dressers. I love the Rondure dresser and chest--the drawer hardware makes them feel so special.

  6. There are so many beautiful things. This mirror is gorgeous. AMELIE 41" WOODEN ARCHED MIRROR IN SILVER. Thanks for all the insights and opening your home to us!

  7. Everything is so gorgeous!
I absolutely love the AISLING 55" X 55" Quaterfoil Mirror in silver. That would look so amazing over my fireplace!!

  8. That marble serving tray looks like it would make your Thanksgiving Day food look even better! I also love the table runner... the simple stripe feels like it could transition from season to season and adapt just by what you put on top of it. Love the overall look of the table! Except give me a turkey leg instead of a pear. ????

  9. We recently bought house and things are in disarray. For a start, I want to create a small reading nook for me and my son. I envision it to be little garden with plants and flowers and picture of animals. These items will be a good start;

I have been to Arhaus showroom in Raleigh and just admire their decor and furnitures. I am glad you suggested them, as i was wondering about their quality. Thank you, Julia :),Best Wishes, Minu

  10. The Albion dinner plates really caught my eye, the are simple, but lookhandmade almost. I haven’t splurged on new plates since I moved out and bought my first house in 2006, so they would be a real treat for me! Love the tablescape it definitely does feel like you ????

  11. Ooh, that Lincoln been is pretty cool. We don’t have any coffee tables and use children’s board books to hold our drinks on our sectional, so the Serena coffee table would come in handy. Ha!

  12. Everything on the Arhaus website is gorgeous but if I won, I'd put that $500 towards the 96" One of a Kind Walnut Live Edge Console table. I absolutely love live edge and have the perfect spot for the console in our living/dining room!

  13. I would love a new white linen duvet cover for my bedroom makeover.

  14. I could really use some nice curtains for our living room! The Fresco Drape in Talbot Mist would do quite nicely! :)

  15. I just love your style! I was actually in Aurhus the other day, looking for lighting. We are in desperate need of better lighting in our living room. I love the Arc floor lamp. It’s casual, clean and sophisticated.

  16. Ever since seeing your iron bed in your guest room I have wanted one! I love the Hough bed on Arhaus... and its on sale! Great giveaway, thanks!

  17. Omg how gorgeous is the HAYDEN 38" UPHOLSTERED BRASS SATIN CHAIR IN VANCE CLOUD?! Make my dreams come true with this in my master bedroom ????????

  18. I love the TAJA BELLE MEDIA CABINET IN ALTO. I'm looking to makeover my formal dining room as a game/play area and I need a nice looking media console with doors where I can store video games, movies, etc.

  19. I LOVE the talent show idea! I’ve always wanted to have a party with one, but sometimes it’s a little difficult to plan and have friends come through. My talent is spitting gum up in the air and catching it 10 times in a row. Prettt sweet, I know. ????. Thanks for sharing!

  20. As newly weds my husband and I can't afford very many nice things. Most of our furniture has been given to us from other family members haha. I love home decor and style trends but with our situation we can't really have those luxuries right now. I hope to slowly replace the handmedown furniture with nicer pieces so I thought we could start with our dresser in our bedroom! We have been using a book shelf for our clothes and it can become quite a mess so to have drawers where things can be organized would be a dream!!! ♥️ i absolutely LOVE this dresser in black!

    https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/bedroom-furniture/dressers-and-chests/tremont-6-drawer-dresser-in-dry-branch-black/

  21. I would loooove the Lincoln bed. We have updated most of the furniture in our house over the years but neglected out master bedroom and it's about time we retired my husband's highschool bedroom set (insert embarassed face). It would be nice to keep our bedroom doors open when people swing by instead of breaking a sweat trying to shut the doors before anyone sees our cherry wood uglies!! Hah!

  22. I would totally go for the "GREY EMBROIDERED CHAMBRAY QUEEN DUVET COVER." It's beautiful and neutral with lots of texture. Our current duvey has to much white and it's SO hard to keep it acceptably clean.

  23. That thanksgiving tablescape is beautiful and the garland on the lighting can stay up all season... love that it's not your typical colors with the bright greenish/yellow pears.

And of course that Arhaus link turned into a mini time-suck where I get lost dreaming of updating my house... loving this super simple bed frame. Kind of looks like yours. https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/bedroom-furniture/beds-and-headboards/beck-king-bed-in-windsor-graphite/

  24. Loving the dinning tables! That's one of many rooms on my list to re-furnish & redecorate. Looks like I know where I'll be window shopping during nap time today!

  25. The bowls are so beautiful and the contrast with the green pairs make them even more perfect. Love the color concept you did! Can I ask about the gorgeous while vase on the background on your island? And is the greenery in it real or something you bought?

  26. It's our first time hosting thanksgiving this year and I so appreciate the tips and ideas!
We are also renovating our entire house and are finally working on the master bedroom with zero furniture yet to fill it with! I just love the HAYDEN 38" UPHOLSTERED BRASS SATIN CHAIR IN VANCE CLOUD, made in America! Would be a great addition to the master or living room!

  27. I'm dreaming of the MARTELLO DESK CHAIR!!! I'm a stay at home mom with a hard working husband and it would be such a treasure to be able to give this gift to him.

  28. I’d really love to have the Ferris Rectangle Chandelier. My husband and I recently inherited and moved into his grandmother’s home. We want to continue her warmth and generosity in the home by updating the space to match our joint style for maximum cozy hospitality. It’s a big job and an even bigger legacy. The Ferris Rectangle Chandelier would be perfect for the home and the stay a while feel we want to give to everyone.

  29. We’re building our first new home. We’d love the green leather chairs for our new dining room. We saw them at Arhaus, and they’re not only beautiful but they’re comfortable too!

  30. We are hosting this year and I have been trying to finish up our decor from moving in last year. So linen drapes it would be for me!!!!

  31. That black silverware is bomb. Holy cow, if I had enough matching forks and spoons for all 8 of us to have a real table setting, I'd feel like Martha freaking Stewart this Thanksgiving.

  32. My husband and I recently got married and bought our first house (something I definitely don't recommend doing all in the same month). Going from a 609 sq foot apartment to a home can be a daunting decorating task, but trying to not get caught up or overwhelmed and really find piece that's we love. One thing we've quickly realized in the month we have been in there house is what a difference lighting can make. Would love to change out our tired, boring light fixtures with some like this really awesome piece: https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/lighting/chandeliers/hemisphere-geode-chandelier-in-antiqued-brass/

  33. I would spend my prize money on bar stools for our new home. Crossing my fingers that we can move in by Thanksgiving!

  34. I super love the elegance and simplicity of you table decor. It's so my style. For my Arhaus pick, I'm loving their mercer pouf. The shorter boho rectangle stripe pouf is really great too.

  35. Those pom-pom bowls! So lovely. And to match your curtains!

My husband is in the military and so we move around a lot. Sometimes, we are stationed with old friends and most times we make new friends. I want to start a new tradition during Thanksgiving, of having everyone write what they are thankful for, along with their name and date, on our tablecloth. I'll then embroider each guests little note. As each year goes by the tablecloth will hold so many special memories. I told this to my husband, not expecting much of a reaction. He turned to me and with much candor said he wished we did this long ago, for a nice momento for some of the service members no longer with us. I love the idea of having a talent show. I am definitely stealing that one!

I am really living Arhaus's Grand Chester Mirror with hooks. It would be perfect for our new entryway. Thanks for the chance of winning this awesome giveaway!

    https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/decor/storage-and-baskets/grand-chester-small-mirror-hook-in-antique-bronze/

  36. I’ve been planning our Christmas table already because we’ll be out of town for Thanksgiving and your table is so inspiring. I like how you said it looks like your house. That’s exactly what I’ve been keeping in mind during my planning! I want our table to look like it goes with everything in our house so I’m sticking with the same color palette.

My daughter needs a new dresser and this one: https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/bedroom-furniture/dressers-and-chests/portier-6-drawer-dresser/ is to die for! A stone top would be perfect in a 7 year olds room so I don’t have to worry about her ruining the top with her water cups and markers she leaves everywhere.

  37. I would love (and could use since we don’t have one a light over our dining room table) the Ferris rectangle chandelier!

  38. These Avignon bowls with pearl trim are the perfect dinner wear for every occasion. They could be used for family dinners, thanksgiving, baby showers, birthday parties, 4th of July, honestly the uses are endless. These bowls could be used for any fun and festive gathering.

  39. Omg that black silverware for sure! It would be the perfect compromise btw my bf hating gold flatware and me hating basic silver!!

  40. I've been using makeshift dining chairs for the past 4 months, the Emily side chair would the perfect addition for christmas dinner ????????

  41. Are you quoting Brian Regan? If so, cracking me up. If not, he is a hilarious comedian that you can actually enjoy with your kids.

  42. I love Arhaus! I would love to own a Remington sofa - it’s a streamlined, classic sofa! Fingers crossed!

  43. The Clayhill coffee table would be my pick! I love the raw wood of it. I like so many of the accessories in this post, too! That flatware is awesome.

  44. I love this sofa trying to get a new one for my new house. I just wanted to add something we do for thanksgiving tradition we buy a cake to celebrate my father in law death and we write letters why we are thankful.

  45. Oh! What a beautiful tablescape! What a dream! And Arhaus, I’ve never heard of them before. But now I’m Obssessed! I would drool over the money king bed or the bronze geode chandilier.

  46. I know Winter is almost here, but I'm still saving up to purchase the Treviso outdoor table. Please Arhaus, don't discontinue it!

  47. I'm loving the HAYDEN 38" UPHOLSTERED BRASS SATIN CHAIR IN VANCE CLOUD. I've been looking for a new living room chair and that one would be just right

  48. So lovely and hospitable! I would love the candle sticks because my husband knows how much I love to cook dinner for guests. The other day, we were having friends over and our flowers went bad so we lit a small candle as a centerpiece. It was cozy and simple - he knows me so well :) https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/decor/candles-and-candleholders/wilton-large-candlestick-holder/?utm_source=mediakix&utm_medium=blog&utm_term=arhaus&utm_content=chris%20loves%20julia

  49. so much good stuff ... & decorating s "new" (to us) house, i could take 1 of everything. but i'll start with either the braided knit ???? or the indigo shibori wallpaper????. thanks for the chance!

  50. Love the round coffee table. Would love to have that for my doggie tot in around and for family to play games around.

  51. Well, as much as I would love to spoil myself, I would use it to help buy my mom a new recliner. Something comfy with a mix of modern and traditional like the Walker 31" recliner. It would look great in her condo. ????????
    httpsps://www.arhaus.com/furniture/living-room-furniture/swivel-chairs-and-recliners/walker-31-inch-upholstered-recliner-in-mitch-stone/

  52. Oh my gosh. Your table looks amazing. Love the black flatware and am lusting after some myself. What a fantastic giveaway! We are mid-reno and there are definitely some pieces that would complement our existing pieces beautifully, including the Pinna drum table in brass (gorgeous!) and the Lovell mercury glass lamp. And I may just have to order that Lotus bud vase, giveaway or not!

  53. Beautiful table scape! I love that it's not so traditional Thanksgiving, but it's still warm.

I choose two items: a traditional leather chair and a coffee table. I'm currently in the market for both and these are lovely.

    https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/living-room-furniture/chairs-and-chaises/brentwood-motion-43-inch-leather-recliner-in-matador-walnut/
    https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/living-room-furniture/coffee-tables-and-trunks/bertogne-60-inch-coffee-table/

I'm a professional designer and I love what you guys are doing! I listen to your podcast while I work. Keep up the great work!

  54. I would love to get Percy the 6 drawer dresser and the matching 2 drawer night stand! Love your table! It is so stunning!

  55. I'm honestly dying over that flatware you posted: https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/tabletop/flatware/kent-5-piece-place-setting-in-black/

I've been thinking lately that black flatware would be so gorgeous! If I win, I may just have to pull the trigger!
We are also going to be hosting out of town guests soon, so a sleeper sofa is in order. I like this one a lot: https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/living-room-furniture/sofas/filmore-86-inch-upholstered-queen-air-sleeper-sofa-in-theater-granite/

  56. The Bal Harbour outdoor sofa is gorgeous!! But really, any of the outdoor furniture!

    BAL HARBOUR OUTDOOR 78" SOFA

  57. If I won, I'd like to get the FRESCO QUEEN QUILT IN MIST GREY VOILE and matching shams. Our mattress is quite high and it's so hard to find a quilt that covers the mattress and this one would! Plus, it's in the color I want. I sure I hope I win. Thanks bunches!

  58. I just inherited my great-grandmother's dining table - but no chairs! I would love to flank the old oak table with a pair of the Gage dining chairs in the tanner color! So lovely!

  59. I have been looking for a new dining room table for a while and the Luciano rectangle dining table is ver pretty. I need to take some measurements though. The issue is our dining room is small but I like to have the option of adding a lot of leaves to a table to make it large when we want to host 10 people.

  60. Love that Rio chair! And I'm definitely doing the pear thing for thanksgiving this year! For the adult table at least. If I do the kid table too, there will definitely be bites taken out of each one. The rascals....

  61. I love all the pops of green. It looks simple and natural. I also like that the table is not overloaded with little items and decoration-- more room for food! We usually celebrate with my father's siblings families each year, alternating homes. One of our family traditions is singing a couple hymns or praise and worship songs before supper prayer.

I love this clock-- it looks antique and like a "timeless" piece.
    https://www.arhaus.com/furniture/decor/home-and-wall-decor/merida-39-inch-clock-in-antique-gold/

  62. Now that we have a dining room, I’d love a new dining table! Especially one that extends since we always host thanksgiving. Love the Tuscany table

  63. Love the mixes of colours and textures on your table! I also love the KENSINGTON EXTENSION DINING TABLE in the lighter colour. Beautiful!
