Want an easy way to update a space with a large piece of art —no frame required? Try an oversized wall tapestry! In our Modern Cottage home, I had one from Anthropologie that felt like such a magical little scene. It eventually found its home in Polly’s room—the perfect finishing touch for her Moody Modern Traditional space.

Tapestries have an incredible found-antique-meets-modern-world feel. Tapestry weaving goes back hundreds (thousands?) of years as a way to share scenes of life, religious history, or landscapes. Large wall tapestries add so much texture and warmth to any space. I’m currently envisioning how I could layer several together to create a gallery wall for a larger living space or hallway!!
How high should you hang a tapestry? I like to position them at least 4-6 inches above the furniture below. If you’re using one large tapestry, the center of the piece should be around eye level. And the best part? You can hang them easily with 3M Command Strips for no mess.

There are so many beautiful historical artworks from Italy, France, and Belgium that have inspired new pieces at great price points. I found quite a few tapestries at Magnolia and Pottery Barn that have inspired me lately (and most are under $200!). Here are my recommendations if you’re looking to add a captivating focal point to your space:

It’s from Farrow & Ball—you can find it here!
A beautiful handmade quilt can also hang on the wall and feel very sentimental and lovely. Two tiny nails on the corner work just fine!
