This past weekend, I was invited to tour the HGTV® dream home in Gig Harbor, Washington overlooking the Puget Sound and it was breathtaking! The whole house is unreal--and someone is going to win it! (You can enter for your chance to win twice a day right here.)
The renovation (I loved seeing the before photos while I was there!) was designed by Brian Patrick Flynn and I got to pick his brain about some of the choices he made. Like the colors--he was actually contractually obligated to use a certain palette. Or the that cool fireplace in front of the windows--that used to be on a different wall but he thought the fireplace should be in the same direction as the focal point--that incredible view. I agree.
The floors are all this really pretty white-washed-looking wood (Lumber Liquidator's Steel Creek Hickory) that make the whole place feel brighter and calming at the same time. I loved them and the way they contrast with the black walnut counters in the kitchen with lighter perimeter countertops and coordinating backsplash (Silestone's Calacatta Gold) that go all the way up to the ceiling--like a dream!
Around every corner felt like a surprise. Whether it was the sweet whale hooks, the lavender grasscloth wallpaper...
...the warm pink on pink bedroom that felt super sophisticated in person or the striped powder grasscloth-esque tiled walls in the powder room.
The master bathroom was light and airy and full on sun (thanks, skylight) and cool fixtures.
Besides meeting a ton of fun HGTV people, including Bryan, I got to meet Kirsten from Simply Grove, who I have adored forever! She's way better at posing and boomerangs and style in general so it was fun to absorb all I could from her for a few hours while we were there.
Everything felt luxe, but nothing beat the view from almost every room in the house.
And when you step out onto the sprawling back deck, it will take your breath away.
What's your favorite part? While it's definitely polarizing, that black exterior was probably mine. It's just what I imagined a house on the water in Gig Harbor to look like. I'm dying to know the color of the master bathroom cabinets. I'm in love with them and did some research. I know that the cabinets are named Platinum Grey by Cabinets to Go and that it's a Sherwin Williams color that they use to manufacture these cabinets overseas. I've checked and they can't tell me a paint color. I'm wanting to paint my existing cabinets that color but I've run into a dead end. Do you happen to know what color paint they are?
I'm sorry! I wish I could help.
I am trying to track down exactly where the house is located on the bay. I have some familiarity with Gig Harbor....family used to live on the bay. Do you have the address on Henderson Bay that the house sits on? Thanks in advance.....Buddy
Sorry! I don't!
Hmmmm....interesting. You were IN the house (INVITED to go there) and you don't know the address? Methinks you might be LYING! Why do you feel the need to lie?
Why would I lie? They flew me to the seattle area. Boarded a bunch of us on a bus and drove us to the house.
Searching the coast line....I found it. 11628 70th Ave. NW. And here's the Realtor.com listing, before HGTV go a hold of it.

Love the bar stools in the kitchen! Any idea where to find similar ones?
They are from Wayfair.
I'm living and breathing my new home, my amazing view, that has always been a part of me, I'm talking, DNA, part of me. I Thank you, HGTV for making my Dreams come true.
This has to be my FAVORITE of all the Dream Homes..! I am baffled over how perfect this house it for my family! (Color palette, room decor and situation of furnishings! My husband is an artist and there is even an Easel included! Its perfect! Thank you!!) Obsessed over the views and overall feeling I get when I tour the home! So looking forward to the winner selection and praying HARD!
Whether the exterior is dark or light or the interior has a palette of pink the truth is that it is one's expression of true art and devotion to making a home for a lucky winner who otherwise can only dream of such a home. Thank you to all at hgtv for a chance at such of an amazing home like this.
This home is GoRgEoUS!! Whoever is blessed with this home will really enjoy it!
I love everything about it, I want to move in! Hope I win it this time. It would definitely be a dream to enjoy it every day!
It's such a nice home! But I have to ask what's with the low hung picture on the wall of whale hooks? So random!
It's an artistic choice.
I'm in love with the family home
How did the floors feel underfoot? I looked them up and they are engineered hardwood. I don't know much about that kind of flooring - are the seams extra noticeable than traditional hardwoods? It's a beautiful budget option and looks amazing in the pictures - does it feel kinda...cheap though? Just wondering what your thoughts are! Thanks!
I had my shoes on :/ so I can't tell you for sure, but they looked really nice!
I love the exterior, but it somehow doesn't seem to go with the interior in my mind. The interior looks a little too glam/modern? I don't know what it is, but it just doesn't feel right to me. It's interesting that the designer doesn't get to pick the palette. Wonder if he would have gone in a different direction if he had a choice. And who picks the palette? Interesting! I love lots of things about the interior too, but it just doesn't jive with that moody handsome exterior.
I agree with that. I believe one of the sponsors was a paint company who had a palette they wanted to push. They mentioned something about that when we got there.
I found my Dream Home!!! Bryan Patrick Flynn! Sir! You are a genius!! I so enjoy touring every room in that house!
I’ve never been a fussy person! As long as the place is clean and functional good! But after seeing this house I was awe strucked!
I can only imagine the euphoria you felt going through each room and absorbing all that masterpieces!
Finger crossed ????
Good luck!
I can't stop thinking about the window from the master bedroom to the living room. We have a window like that in our master and it's just so weird I've never liked it. From our room it's odd, but looks so out of place from the living room. I haven't been able to find any photos of the window from the living room in the HGTV house to see how that window looks — I need some inspiration to figure out how to make it look like less of an eyesore. Can you say what your impressions of it was in the house?
I honestly never even noticed it from the living room. Truly. It was kind of cool to me!
I think the house looks great, particularly on the outside. However, the interior doesn't always feel like a Pacific Northwest house to me. The pink is an odd touch (in my opinion) and a mural of the mountain (Rainier) would have been more fitting than the Space Needle. But I LOVE the fireplace wall with the windows - that is perfect!
Love this house remodel! The Great Room is my favorite. Cozy and wonderful view.
It was a hard choice choosing my favorites, but I just kept coming back to this lovely piece of art with a view. I would love to curl up with a fire in the fireplace and a good book. Perfect setting for a blustery Washington Winter day.
I love this house remodel! Thanks for the tour. The Great Room so cozy and with a great view is perfect and my favorite of all the remodeled rooms. I want to curl up and read a good book in this wonderful room!
Hi Julia! It looks amazing. I'm curious - you have a room in your photos that I haven't seen featured on the site (small gray sectional, sunburst mirror). Is that a second living room? Do you know the sources for any of those items?
There were MULTIPLE seating areas. This one was right across from a bed--kind of like a studio set up. I know that Wayfair sponsored all of the furnishings.
WOW! What an exciting experience!!! I have always wanted to tour the HGTV Dream Home! What a gorgeous house with incredible views!
The view are incredible! I love those big windows and against the black exterior -totally my jam.
Love the black exterior and what a dream location!! Love your photos of the house too.
I'm OBSESSED with the black exterior. It's just so moody and gorgeous and I would love to drive up to that home every day. The interior is amazing too - that view!
I LOVED your live tour. I watched it twice while nursing my baby in the middle of the night and dreamt in the hours I could get some sleep about winning. What a dream indeed.
FYI Brian and Bryan. :)
I want THAT house!!! (oh, and you would definitely be a welcome guest) Fun to see your photos...I'll bet it was so fun to be there. I agree with you...I LOVE the black exterior. (but then it's so bright inside) just lovely! A girl can dream right!?
