3 Mother's Day Ideas That Will Make Her Cry

May 8, 2017

Mother's Day is on Sunday (!!) and when I was compiling this year's gift guide, I thought of all the mothers in my life; my own mom, my mother in law, my sisters, my friends, other mother figures--and in thinking of them, I knew I wanted to really focus on ideas, with gifts linked below each one to help you execute those ideas.

Because really, there are three things I long for as a mother of (almost) three.

BREAKFAST IN BED

Eating breakfast in bed means so much more than eating food in bed. It means that someone who loves you got up early and quietly, took care of the kids and you SLEPT long enough, and without anyone climbing up on you when you were sleeping, for them to make you an entire breakfast--IN BED! It's glorious and best served with a homemade card from the kids.

*We have this lap tray and pull it out all the time. I also already have these pajama pants AND sheets and both are incredible. I included a little bud vase (for a few fresh flowers), the sweetest mug, the gold flatware she's been eyeing from Target for too long and some sweet dishes.

AT-HOME SPA

There's not much time for moms to get dressed, let alone soak in the tub or even blow-dry their hair. And while I love a good trip to the spa or salon, you can have multiple at-home spa-like sessions for about the same price of one trip in! So run her a bath, put on some soothing music, pile a few of these items in a pretty basket and let her have the afternoon to unwind.

*A few of these I have and love and some are on my own personal wish list--especially that Luna! Splurge on the blowdryer, or mix and match some smaller items like the bath bombs, nail polish and moisturizer and magical pillowcase (I heard it's magic.).

A REAL DATE NIGHT OUT

Surprise reservations, with a pretty new top or dress and jewelry (obsessed with the locket I linked below!) and the babysitter all booked will bring tears to her eyes. You took care of everything!? Of course you did. Stay out long enough for the kids to be asleep in bed and then surprise her with one more romantic gesture at home--cafe lights strung over the hammock, a framed picture of the kids (because she'll actually miss them by this point) and her favorite pint of ice cream in the freezer.

* The tops I included are really flattering and forgiving and should be great for a wide variety of body types. I love the pin stripe one!

  1. Julia! Great post! So, I read your post where you talked about ditching eyelash extensions... So, how long have you been using this serum? What is your verdict? Have you seen a notable difference?

    1. I've only been using it about 2 weeks, but I can already tell a difference honestly. My lashes look healthy even after just quitting extensions--unheard of.

  2. Great Mother's Day ideas! I love the at home spa idea :)

Also, not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I would love to see a post that is a roundup of maternity styles!

  3. Chris - are you taking notes?! haha

#3 sounds amazing for any celebration, whether you are a mom or not! Great ideas, Julia!!

  4. #3... ???? Wow. Definitely #3! I know it has very little do do with the kids involvement but it says everything about appreciation and forethought, which is so important in recognizing a mom

Well fam, we made it. We're finally here! The mudroom is officially done. I looked back at the very first post about transforming this space, and it was one year ago, almost to the day. On the one hand, I feel a little deflated that it took us a year. And on the other hand, […]

I love ordering crab cakes out—they're such a treat. But if I want to make crab cakes at home, they need to cater to our food restrictions. That means they have to be delicious AND have no eggs, dairy, wheat, gluten or grains. Well these knock it out of the park, thanks to some secret […]

The Best of August 2024

August is my unofficial start of autumn — I don't believe in separating seasons, or holidays, for that matter. I prefer to squeeze every ounce of joy I feel from the day, whether that is a sunny beach day (which is how we started the month!) or a cool early fall walk with Cricket and […]
